On the afternoon of December 1st, the Vietnamese Taekwondo team competed in the creative team event with the participation of martial artists Le Tran Kim Uyen, Nguyen Xuan Thanh, Tran Dang Khoa, Tran Ho Duy, Nguyen Thi Y Binh, and Nguyen Phan Khanh Han. This was the event where the team had the highest expectations for a gold medal. The athletes were especially determined after only winning a silver medal in the standard mixed doubles poomsae event, alongside the frustration over the unfair scoring by the referees.
As the first team to compete, facing immense pressure, the contestants delivered an explosive performance on the Island Hall stage. As team captain Khanh Han stated, everyone was determined to win, uniting to overcome difficulties, from one person suffering an injury on the day of the competition to concerns about the refereeing.
Finally, with their outstanding performance, the Vietnamese Taekwondo team excellently won the Gold medal with a score of 8.060, higher than the host country Thailand's 7.940, the Philippines' 7.580, and Myanmar's 7.060. This is also the second Gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation on the first official day of competition, following the Gold medal won by the pair Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong in the women's 500m double sculls event.
