Last night (November 30th), students at Hoa Sen University circulated a video showing a student assaulting another student and acting aggressively, insulting a lecturer, causing outrage among viewers. Some students claimed that the student in the video even wanted to expel the lecturer from the university.
"She hates me, she talks nonsense."
Speaking with a reporter from Thanh Nien Newspaper, Mr. Le Thai Huy, Director of the Student Employment Experience and Communication Center at Hoa Sen University, said that the incident occurred on the afternoon of November 28th during a general law class.
"The student who assaulted her classmate is named PNCV, from the 23rd cohort of the Fashion Design major. On November 29th, the Student Employment Experience and Communication Center conducted verification, contacted, and met with relevant parties to gather information, including the lecturer, student V., classmates, and parents," Mr. Huy informed.
Student PNCV (in red shirt) slaps classmate in class.
By the morning of December 1st, Hoa Sen University had held a meeting between the center's leadership, the director of the fashion design department, representatives from the University's Training Department, Ms. TNNT, a lecturer in general law, student V., student TKK (who was assaulted), PNAT (from the same class), and KK's parents.
At the meeting, V. stated that she did not accept the lecturer assigning homework at the beginning of class because it was unreasonable. "I also disagree with the lecturer's question; she doesn't respect students, interrupts my questions, and her comments imply she dislikes overweight students. After students complained, she became indifferent…," the student said.
V. also claimed that when she spoke, the lecturer should have looked down and not looked up. "I thought the group of friends were stealing intellectual property and asked the lecturer to resolve the issue, but she hated me and spoke in a meaningless way. At that time, K. was 'delusional,' I hated her, so I went and slapped her. T. tried to stop me, but I hit T. too," the female student added, explaining the reason for her altercation.
The female student also admitted to asking the academic affairs office to inform the rector to fire the lecturer after the incident in class.
Ms. TNNT responded: "She assigned homework in class, and I participated that day. She also uploaded the assignments to the mlearning system, so I can't say I didn't know she assigned homework or that she made things difficult for me. She assigned homework beforehand so that students could proactively research it, which is different from the learning methods in high school."
Regarding V.'s accusation that her classmate's presentation slides were plagiarized, Ms. T. stated that because there wasn't enough evidence, she allowed the student to continue presenting, and only then would she address the issue of whether or not "intellectual property theft" occurred.
KK, the student who was slapped, recounted: "We were upset because V. behaved inappropriately towards the lecturer, so we reacted. Because of that, she rushed over and hit me." Both KK and AT commented that the lecturer had an effective teaching method and was considerate towards the students in the class.
Received the highest level of disciplinary action: expulsion from school.
Ms. Dang Thi Hue, Head of the Academic Affairs Department of the Postgraduate Training Office, stated that all students and lecturers must abide by the school's rules and regulations upon entering the university. "The school always cares about its students by developing its facilities, teaching staff, and teaching quality. Therefore, students must also comply with the school's regulations," Ms. Hue shared.
Therefore, according to Mr. Le Thai Huy, the student from PNCV violated the school's regulations for students. "With inappropriate behavior in communicating with lecturers and assaulting a classmate during class, the school will handle the student according to the regulations, with the highest penalty being expulsion. Representatives from the school, lecturers, and the department have met with the students, reassured them, and informed their parents," Mr. Huy said. In addition, the school also reminded and reprimanded the student for posting the video on social media.
It is known that, prior to this, on November 30th, representatives from the Student Employment Experience and Communication Center called PNCV's parents to inform them about the incident and invite them to a meeting, but the parents were unable to attend due to their distance. The parents also agreed with the school's disciplinary action of expelling V.
