The 27th National Physics Olympiad for Students – 2025 (SPhO 27) took place from November 27 to 30 at MIT University. This is an annual academic competition organized by the Vietnam Physics Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training , aiming to assess the physics capacity of university students through three main contents: solving exercises, practicing experiments and multiple choice tests.

The test sections are designed with high requirements and clear differentiation. In the problem solving section, candidates must systematically apply basic knowledge, combine reasoning and modeling skills to solve problems from basic to advanced. The experimental practice section is considered the most challenging, as the test is implemented in an open format: candidates propose their own measurement plans, conduct experiments and process data within a limited time. The multiple choice section covers a wide range of knowledge from mechanics, electromagnetism to some modern physics content, requiring accuracy and speed.
In the atmosphere of continuous competition for three days, teams from many major universities all said that this year's exam was more difficult than previous years, especially in the experimental part. The competition became more fierce when the exam gathered many teams with strong traditions such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Natural Sciences - VNU Hanoi, University of Natural Sciences - VNU Ho Chi Minh City, Military Technical Academy, Vinh University and Hanoi Pedagogical University.... These are units that have achieved high results for many consecutive years in SPhO seasons.

The MIT University team participated in the exam with a proactive spirit and the lecturer in charge built a review roadmap suitable for the exam structure. Practice activities were implemented according to the professional instructions of the Organizing Committee, focusing on two main groups of competencies: problem solving and experimental operations. Review took place according to a unified plan and was maintained throughout before the exam. Thanks to that, MIT University students had stable preparation in terms of knowledge and necessary skills.
The final results were announced, the Eastern University of Technology team achieved an impressive result when they ranked second overall. In the individual competition, a student from MIT University won third place. This achievement is especially meaningful when SPhO 27 gathered the largest number of teams ever, including many teams with experience participating in previous Olympic seasons. The results also showed the academic ability of MIT University students and the consistency in the preparation process.

In the closing ceremony, the Organizing Committee awarded a total of 85 official prizes, including 17 first prizes, 30 second prizes and 38 third prizes to the contestants, accounting for 39.9% of the total number of contestants. Along with the individual prize system, to encourage the National Student Physics Olympiad movement, Eastern University of Technology honored the achievements of the entire delegation with 10 teams winning first place, 16 teams winning second place, 17 teams winning third place and encouragement prizes for individuals, along with many certificates of merit awarded to contestants with outstanding achievements in each competition content to recognize the outstanding efforts of the contestants.
One factor that many candidates are interested in at SPhO 27 is the preferential recruitment policy according to Decree 140/2017/ND-CP. According to this regulation, students who win first, second and third prizes in the exam will be considered for benefits when applying to state agencies and public service units. The application of Decree 140 makes the achievements in the exam a practical advantage in students' career orientation. For the MIT University team, this year's results open up opportunities for students who win prizes to access groups of jobs according to the preferential policy.

In particular, the Vietnam Physics Society awarded a Certificate of Merit to MIT University, recognizing the organization of the exam that met the requirements of facilities, technology and operation. The achievement at SPhO 27 is a remarkable step forward for the MIT University team. This is also the basis for the school to continue to strengthen training activities related to physics and engineering, supporting students to participate in national-scale academic playgrounds in the coming years.
