On the afternoon of September 11, at a socio -economic press conference, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced that schools will be teaching two sessions a day, and that schools will hold classes on Saturday mornings.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, teaching two sessions a day aims to implement the general education program scientifically, helping to reduce learning pressure and improve the quality of comprehensive education.

At the same time, it helps all students have the opportunity to participate in learning activities, develop their talents, support weak students, and contribute to narrowing the quality gap between schools and regions.

According to the department, depending on the facilities and teaching staff, school leaders proactively arrange the first and second sessions flexibly and reasonably according to regulations, creating conditions for students to study more easily, have time to review, practice and develop personal capacity.

Organize activities to develop talents, practice life skills, etc. to guide students to develop comprehensively.

For schools that have organized 2 sessions/day, Saturday morning classes to nurture excellent students, tutor underachieving students or other educational activities according to the needs and wishes of parents and students, on a voluntary basis.

For schools that do not have the conditions to teach 2 sessions/day, to ensure the time to convey the general education program content, schools prioritize arranging classes on the other side of the week, only when conditions are really not met will they arrange classes on Saturday morning.

"Thus, the organization of educational activities on Saturdays is considered and flexibly weighed based on the conditions of facilities, teaching staff and practical needs of each school and each locality," informed the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.

Notably, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will issue a document regulating school entry and exit times for students of all levels in the 2025-2026 school year, so that schools have a common basis for building timetables.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the education and training sector pays special attention to the psychology of students and parents, especially primary school students, when they have changes in curriculum, timetables and learning methods.

"This transition can cause anxiety and pressure and students need time to adapt. Therefore, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has directed schools to strengthen school psychological counseling, arrange homeroom teachers, specialized staff and psychological collaborators to support students promptly.

Educational activities are designed in an experiential, gentle, and close-knit way, helping students get used to the new learning environment and build positive relationships with teachers and friends," informed the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.

At the same time, the department also requires schools to publicize their learning plans and discuss thoroughly with parents to create consensus. Schools are encouraged to organize meetings, consultations, and information sharing so that parents can clearly understand the educational goals, thereby feeling secure in accompanying their children and the school.
