Ensuring equity in access to education in border areas
Currently, 13 border communes of Son La province have about 36,000 students and more than 2,000 teachers, but there are no boarding schools, boarding facilities are limited, and learning conditions are difficult. Building a system of inter-level boarding schools has become an urgent task, helping to ensure educational equity, improve teaching and learning quality, reduce dropouts, and create opportunities for comprehensive development for ethnic minority children in border areas.

Talking to the Government Electronic Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Chien, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Son La province, said: "Up to now, 13/13 border communes have completed the master plan for construction; completed the investigation, survey, collection of land plot information, draft land valuation certificate; completed the selection of design models based on the design model of the Ministry of Construction . The communes have also basically organized people's meetings and agreed on compensation and site clearance plans."
100% of projects have started or are ready to start by the end of October, early November 2025
Up to now, Son La province has Phieng Khoai commune which started construction on August 19, 2025; three communes including Phieng Pan, Chieng Khuong and Muong Leo held groundbreaking ceremonies on October 22, 2025. The remaining eight communes (Xuan Nha, Long Phieng, Yen Son, Muong Hung, Chieng Khoong, Chieng Son, Sop Cop and Muong Lan) will simultaneously start construction on October 30, 2025. Notably, Long Sap commune registered to organize a nationwide groundbreaking ceremony on November 2, 2025.
"The fact that 100% of border communes have started construction and completed preparations and are ready to start construction is the result of strong direction from provincial leaders and close coordination between departments, branches and localities. This is not only a series of educational infrastructure projects, but also a symbol of faith, aspiration and responsibility for the Fatherland's border areas," Mr. Nguyen Van Chien emphasized.

In November 2025, the Department of Education and Training will continue to advise the Provincial Steering Committee to direct the completion of compensation, site clearance, appraisal and approval of investment projects, as well as capital allocation according to Decision No. 2231/QD-TTg dated October 9, 2025 of the Prime Minister, ensuring timeliness and compliance with legal regulations.
Mr. Nguyen Van Chien affirmed: "With the high determination of the entire political system, Son La province commits to completing and putting into use 13 inter-level boarding schools in 2026, opening up new and sustainable learning opportunities for children of ethnic minorities in border areas, contributing to firmly consolidating the people's hearts and minds in the Fatherland's border areas."
