On October 2, flood on the Red River through Hanoi peaked at alert level 1.
Observations in residential areas of Hong Ha ward show that rising river levels have isolated many neighborhoods.
In the riverside area, many residents remain in their homes. The villages located close to the river are now submerged in vast stretches of water. The roads leading to the area are flooded to a depth of 2-3 meters, making them only accessible by boat.
As the river water rose rapidly, many people didn't have time to move their belongings. Others tried to stay put to guard their property.
Mr. Van Huu Tinh owned a house right next to the sandbar, near Long Bien Bridge. He moved elsewhere, but he still returns twice a day to check on his belongings and take care of his five dogs and chickens that cling to high objects.
From lane 76 An Duong to the residential areas is about 2km. Each trip by boat takes about 30 minutes.

For many people, the road home is now flooded.

People living in the Red River sandbank area travel by boat to the end of lane 76 An Duong to go ashore to avoid flooding.

Mr. Son's house was submerged. The floodwaters rose too quickly, preventing them from moving their belongings. Reluctantly, he and a relative had to stay behind to guard their property, receiving daily supplies from family members.

Floating houses in the middle of the Red River floodwaters are the only place people can stay in this area.

The roads in the middle of the beach were also flooded, motorbikes could only move a short distance. Some households had to walk for kilometers to get home.

People live during the peak flood days. Meals are hastily cooked on tables near the water's edge.

Taking advantage of the rising floodwaters, some people cast their nets to catch fish, hoping to "salvage" something during the days of high water.

Many agricultural tools were also gathered up to prevent them from being swept away by the strong current.

Plastic containers are common household items that can be used as makeshift floats when encountering strong currents.

Furniture and pets were also moved to higher ground to escape the flood.

Twice a day, Mr. Tinh still regularly returns home to check on his five dogs and chickens. The man said he takes advantage of the rising tide, because if he's not careful, thieves could easily come in boats from the river and steal his belongings.

The man's meals these days were quicker and simpler. He also didn't forget to bring food for his dogs, who had been starving for quite some time.

By late afternoon, the water had receded but remained high. Dozens of people were still waiting for boats to take them across the Red River.
