On August 24, Elon Musk's SpaceX space exploration company canceled the launch of its Starship spacecraft due to a problem at the launch site in Texas, thus delaying efforts to achieve new development milestones after previous failed tests.
The 70.7-meter-tall Super Heavy rocket and the 52-meter-tall Starship spacecraft were stacked on the launch pad at SpaceX's Starbase rocket facility for fueling before liftoff, scheduled for 7:35 PM Eastern Time on August 24th (6:35 AM on August 25th in Vietnam).
However, about 30 minutes before launch, SpaceX had to decide to "stop Starship's 10th flight to fix a problem on the ground systems."
SpaceX has not yet announced when the next launch will take place, but previous postponements have usually been reinstated after only a few days.
SpaceX is developing the next generation of rockets, a key focus of billionaire Elon Musk's space launch program aimed at conquering Mars. However, the program has repeatedly encountered problems this year, preventing SpaceX from realizing its plans.
SpaceX's latest version of the launch vehicle is said to have superior features such as enhanced thrust, a more resilient heat shield, and more robust control fins to ensure re-entry into the atmosphere—key characteristics for the rapid re-entry capability of Starship that billionaire Musk has long advocated.
Previously, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) expected to use Starship as early as 2027 to serve the first crewed flight to the Moon since the Apollo program.
