This morning, March 8th, the SAT testing system experienced a sudden malfunction with very little time left, affecting many test-takers who had to stop their exams.
At the SAT test center at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, one test-taker stated that with only about 22 minutes left until the end of the exam, the system automatically submitted their paper.
A similar incident occurred at the Banking Academy exam site at the same time, due to slow registration procedures, with the system automatically submitting candidates' papers when there were still nearly 25 minutes left before the exam time ended.
When the candidate became confused, the invigilator asked them to stay and wait for a solution, but later informed the candidate to wait for specific information and a plan of action via email.
Many candidates reported not having finished the exam; those who worked quickly might have 12-13 questions left, while those who worked slower might have 16-17 questions remaining in the math section. This incident will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the candidates' results.
Meanwhile, IIG Education , the organization authorized by the College Board (the owner of the SAT test) to administer the SAT in Vietnam, stated that this morning's incident was a global system error on the College Board's part. IIG immediately contacted the College Board to provide information to its customers as soon as possible.
Regarding providing information to the press in Vietnam, the IIG representative also suggested that journalists send questions related to this incident directly to the College Board "to receive the latest and most accurate information about this morning's SAT exam."
The SAT exam, consisting of reading, writing, and math sections, is a widely accepted standardized aptitude test used for university admissions in many countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, and Singapore. In Vietnam, many universities also use this exam for combined admissions or direct admissions.
In Vietnam, the SAT exam fee is 2.6 million VND per attempt.
