The Shangfang Sword appeared during the Han Dynasty, symbolizing the authority of the emperor and officials. It was not used to execute first and report later, so the plot in the movie Bao Qing Tian is fictional.
Bao Zheng (999-1062), commonly known as Bao Qingtian or Bao Gong, was from Luzhou, Hefei, and served as an official during the Northern Song Dynasty. He was famous for being an honest and upright official, strictly enforcing the law, not afraid of authority or favoring personal feelings during the reign of Emperor Renzong of Song. His talent for fair judgment has been passed down through many legends and has become a popular subject in movies.
