With an impressive technical performance and excellent teamwork, the group of six athletes – Nguyen Xuan Thanh, Tram Dang Khoa, Tran Ho Duy, Le Tran Kim Uyen, Nguyen Phan Khanh Han, and Nguyen Thi Y Binh – brilliantly overcame host Thailand, as well as teams from Myanmar and the Philippines, to win the gold medal in the men's and women's team freestyle kata event.

Vietnamese athletes finished the competition with 8,060 points, ahead of Thailand (silver medalist) with 7,940 points and the Philippines (bronze medalist) with 7,580 points. This is the first gold medal for the Vietnamese Taekwondo team and the second gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation on the opening day of competition.
Also on the afternoon of December 10th, in addition to the gold medal in the mixed team freestyle poomsae event, the Vietnamese Taekwondo team also won a bronze medal in the women's standard team event (Nguyen Thi Kim Ha - Le Tran Kim Uyen - Le Ngoc Han).

Earlier, the Vietnamese Taekwondo team won the first silver medal for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation in the mixed doubles poomsae (forms) event. Despite outperforming their opponents, the pair of athletes Nguyen Trong Phuc and Nguyen Thi Kim Ha had to reluctantly miss out on the gold medal after their appeal against the referee's scoring was not accepted.
Thus, on the opening day of competition, the Vietnamese Taekwondo team won 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal, and 1 bronze medal. With this achievement, the team successfully defended their gold medal in the men's and women's team freestyle poomsae event, continuing their success from the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia.
