The six billionaires hold a combined net worth of $13.4 billion, down $400 million from Forbes' last announcement on March 31, 2024, but up $800 million from the end of 2023.
The richest person in Vietnam is currently Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vingroup (stock code: VIC) and CEO of VinFast, with a net worth of $4.1 billion, a decrease of $200 million compared to the beginning of the year and ranking 833rd in the world. This is due to the continued decline of VIC shares by more than 9% over the past year.
Currently, Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong directly holds over 691 million VIC shares, with the remainder owned through private companies such as GSM, VMI, and Vietnam Investment Group. He also holds a significant amount of VFS shares through his private companies.
Along with Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong, the assets of Mr. Tran Ba Duong (Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thaco ) and Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang (Chairman of the Board of Directors of Masan Group) also decreased compared to the end of last year.
In particular, the assets of the Chairman of Thaco and the Chairman of Masan Group both decreased by $200 million. Mr. Quang is a rather special case, constantly appearing on Forbes' list of billionaires due to the volatility of MSN shares.
Mr. Quang was recognized as a billionaire in the list published in early 2019, with assets of 1.3 billion USD. In 2023, he appeared on the list of world billionaires at the beginning of the year, but left this list from October 2023, when Masan's stock price fell more than 30% from its peak. Previously, from November 2019 to October 2020, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Masan was also not recognized as a billionaire by Forbes.
Meanwhile, the assets of Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Mr. Ho Hung Anh and Mr. Tran Dinh Long increased. The person with the strongest increase was billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Vietjet, Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of HDBank with 700 million USD, up to 2.9 billion USD. Ms. Thao is currently ranked 1,185th in the Forbes list of world billionaires.
Furthermore, thanks to the positive performance of HPG and TCB shares in 2024, the assets of Mr. Tran Dinh Long (Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hoa Phat) and Mr. Ho Hung Anh (Chairman of the Board of Directors of Techcombank) also increased by $600 million and $300 million respectively.
