Contrasting moods of candidates completing the first day of the exam

- Today (June 26), candidates in the province completed the first day of the 2025 High School Graduation Exam. After finishing the Literature exam, most candidates were excited because the exam was within their ability, interesting and highly open. But when it came to the Math exam, many candidates said that the exam was difficult and highly differentiated.

The Literature exam was good and open-ended, while the Math exam was quite difficult.

From early morning, many candidates were present at the exam center at Son Duong High School. They took the opportunity to double-check their information and permitted items for the exam room, and encouraged each other before the exam. The weather on the first day of the exam was cool in the morning and hot in the afternoon, but the exam rooms were equipped with air conditioning and fans to keep the candidates comfortable, so they felt very reassured. Tran Sy Loc, a student from Son Duong High School, said: "To prepare for the exam, I woke up at 5 a.m., prepared my belongings, had breakfast, and then came to the exam center. This year I will be applying to the People's Police Academy, so I have to be determined to do well to fulfill my dream."

Comrade Vu Dinh Hung, Director of the Department of Education and Training, presented gifts to encourage students at Xuan Huy High School whose house was destroyed by fire before the exam.

In Tuyen Quang province, over 10,000 candidates registered to take the 2025 high school graduation exam. On the first day of the exam, the attendance rate for Literature was over 99.5%, and for Mathematics it was 99.6%. The organization of the exam at all 30 testing centers was safe, serious, and in accordance with regulations. One candidate at Son Nam High School (Son Duong district) was disqualified for bringing a mobile phone into the exam room.

After the Literature exam, many candidates left the examination center in high spirits because they had done well. Many candidates believe that this year's Literature exam was designed in line with the spirit of educational reform, with a very open-ended approach. Candidate Le Hong Hanh, who took the exam at Xuan Huy High School (Yen Son), shared: “The exam consisted of two parts, with Part I being reading comprehension (4 points) and Part II being essay writing (6 points). The 4-point question asked candidates: 'Based on the reading comprehension of the text "Different Skies" and their understanding of the context of the country undergoing significant changes, write an argumentative essay (approximately 600 words) on the topic "Every sky of my homeland is the sky of my nation."' Almost all the students in my room were able to answer it and thought this year's exam was very good.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Duyen, a Literature teacher at Y La High School (Tuyen Quang City), said: "This year's Literature exam wasn't tricky. The social commentary section was particularly impressive as it prompted students to think about the context of the country's transformation, where every region of the homeland is a sacred part of the nation. This is an open-ended approach, allowing students to express their personal thoughts and feelings instead of rigidly adhering to stereotypes. Through this, education also demonstrates respect for the independent thinking of the younger generation."

Regarding the Math exam, many candidates leaving the exam room said that this year's exam was more difficult than last year's and had a very high differentiation. Do Quang Anh, a student in class 12 C7 at Tan Trao High School (Tuyen Quang City), said: "This year's Math exam had 12 multiple-choice questions and 4 true/false questions. I have to say that this year's exam was quite difficult for most students; even average students would have to try very hard to get 5 points."

Sharing the same sentiment, Nguyen Anh Hoang, a 12th-grade student from the Provincial Ethnic Boarding High School, expressed: “The exam structure under the new 2018 curriculum has many changes compared to the old one. Besides the multiple-choice section, there is also a true/false section requiring students to spend more time thinking and calculating. Part 3, in particular, contains difficult questions, intended for students with above-average academic ability to score an 8.”

Create all the necessary conditions for candidates to participate in the exam.

With the motto of caring for and creating the most favorable conditions, ensuring that no candidate is unable to participate in the exam due to difficult circumstances, agencies, units, and localities in the province have organized many meaningful activities for candidates during the 2024 exam season. This year's "Supporting the Exam Season" activities, implemented by the Tuyen Quang Provincial Youth Union, the Provincial Buddhist Association, and other units, have been very effective, such as giving gifts to candidates in difficult circumstances, establishing motorbike taxi teams to transport them, providing drinking water, and supporting free lunch for candidates. This demonstrates the humanity and concern of the whole society for the exam, creating the best conditions for candidates to overcome this crucial hurdle.

On the first day of the exam, over 5,100 meals and 5,000 bottles of water and milk were delivered by volunteers, monks, and Buddhist followers across the province to candidates and support teams at 30 exam locations throughout the province. This is one of the meaningful activities aimed at supporting candidates, organized by the Tuyen Quang Provincial Youth Union in coordination with the Provincial Buddhist Association's Executive Board as part of the "Supporting the Exam Season" 2025 program.

Police forces are ready to assist in transporting candidates to and from the examination sites.

Ma Thi Xuan, a 12th-grade student from class C6 at Minh Quang High School (Lam Binh), said: “The free, heartwarming lunches, the bottles of water, and the cartons of milk have given strength to disadvantaged students to strive for the best possible exam results. Later, when we go to school and work, we will always remember this exam filled with human kindness, an exam without pressure, and one that received the attention of the whole society.”

Just before this important exam, the leaders of the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Education and Training visited schools to inspect the exam preparations and encourage the candidates to achieve the best possible results. On the afternoon of June 23rd, Mr. Vu Dinh Hung, Director of the Department of Education and Training, visited and encouraged the staff, teachers, and students at the exam site at Xuan Huy High School (Yen Son).

Here, the Director wished the teachers success in their exam supervision duties and urged 12th-grade students to remain calm and confident to achieve high results in their exams. On this occasion, the Director of the Department of Education and Training presented a gift to encourage Tuong Thi Dang, a Dao ethnic minority student from Hamlet 4, Lang Quan Commune (Yen Son District).

Youth union members and young people provided free lunch for exam candidates at the Son Duong High School examination site.

Em Dang emotionally shared: “A week ago, my family's house burned down, and life became difficult. Fortunately, I received support from various levels of government and organizations to help my family stabilize our lives. The gifts from the Director of the Department of Education and Training, along with my teachers and friends, are a great motivation for me to overcome difficulties and achieve the best possible exam results.”

With various purposes—whether taking the graduation exam alone, taking both the graduation exam and university entrance exam, or just the university entrance exam—each candidate's mood varies. However, most candidates enter the exam with excitement and confidence, encouraged by the support and encouragement they receive from their families, schools, and society as a whole.

During the exam period, many families also took the time to care for and encourage their children, creating a sense of reassurance and comfort for them. Ms. Nguyen Thi Dinh from Vinh Loi commune (Son Duong district) shared: “My granddaughter is in 12th grade. Because her parents work far away, she lives with me, so today she is taking the exam. Normally, she could go by herself, but I wanted to take her to encourage her and hope she achieves her dreams and aspirations.”

After completing the first day of exams, tomorrow (June 27th) candidates taking the 2018 General Education Program will complete the remaining two elective exams in the morning, each lasting 50 minutes. For candidates taking the 2006 General Education Program, they will complete the combined exams in Natural Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or Social Sciences (History, Geography, Civic Education) in the morning, each lasting 50 minutes, and the Foreign Language exam in the afternoon, lasting 60 minutes.
