Strengthening livelihood support for Agent Orange victims to integrate into the community

On December 28, the 5th Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin for the 2024-2029 term opened, with the participation of more than 250 delegates representing more than 20,000 victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in the area.

Speaking at the Congress, Lieutenant General Nguyen Huu Chinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, emphasized that with the spirit of "Solidarity, affection, responsibility towards victims, building a strong association", the 5th Congress of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Ho Chi Minh City needs to proactively promote coordination and cooperation with the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels; political and social organizations and the masses.

Coordination needs to be proactive and effective in propaganda and mobilization work, especially in innovating support methods and helping victims of Agent Orange/dioxin stabilize their livelihoods, overcome difficulties, take control of their lives and integrate sustainably into the community.

According to Major General Nguyen Hong Son - Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, during the past term, the activities of the Victims Association at all levels in Ho Chi Minh City have had many innovations in terms of content as well as methods of operation.

Typically, the Association has mobilized more than 28 billion VND from businesses, philanthropists, and benefactors to care for more than 22,500 victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin through programs such as: scholarship funding, hardship assistance, house repair and waterproofing, free medical examination and surgery, wheelchair provision, and gift giving on the occasion of Tet and Vietnam Agent Orange Day.

During the 2024 - 2029 term, Major General Nguyen Hong Son said that the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin strives for 90% of districts to meet the conditions to establish the Association and 70% of wards/communes to develop branches.

From there, ensure annual mobilization of 5 to 7 billion VND and 100% of Agent Orange/dioxin victims in difficult circumstances receive medical care and livelihood support.

This congress also elected 30 delegates to the Executive Committee for the 2024-2029 term.
