Strengthening coordination in renovating and embellishing the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument in Cambodia

On the morning of October 15th, the 8th meeting between the Ministry of National Defence and the National Council of the Cambodian Fatherland Front for Solidarity and Development took place in Ho Chi Minh City. The meeting focused on the implementation of projects to build, renovate, and beautify the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument in Cambodia, assessing the results of these projects, and agreeing on future cooperation directions.

The delegation from the Ministry of National Defence was led by Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, Deputy Minister of National Defence.

The delegation of the National Council of the Cambodian Front for Solidarity and Development was led by Ms. Samdech Men Sam An, Chairperson of the National Council of the Cambodian Front for Solidarity and Development.

General Vo Minh Luong expressed his pleasure at noting that, despite many changes in the world situation, the friendly neighborly relations between Vietnam and Cambodia continue to be strengthened and developed in many fields; he emphasized that the meeting is a practical action contributing to promoting the good neighborly relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability between the two states and two peoples, and further deepening the good traditional relations between the governments, armies, and peoples of the two countries.

Congratulating Vietnam on its socio -economic achievements in recent years, Samdech Men Sam An expressed gratitude for the immense and dedicated support and assistance from the Party, State, Army, and people of Vietnam in helping Cambodia escape the Khmer Rouge genocide; building and consolidating the government; and developing Cambodia afterward.

The traditional neighborly relations and good friendship between the two nations, nurtured by the sacrifices of many generations of Vietnamese cadres and volunteer soldiers, need to be strengthened and developed to bring practical benefits to the people of both countries.

At the meeting, both sides agreed to highly appreciate the results achieved in accordance with the Minutes of the 7th Session, signed on December 29, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City; the implementation of the Projects has been on schedule and achieved good results.

Both sides affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence and the National Council of the Cambodian Fatherland Front for Solidarity and Development have closely coordinated and actively inspected and supervised the implementation of projects for the construction, renovation, and restoration of Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments by relevant agencies, units, and localities.

From 2015 to the present, Vietnam has provided funding to Cambodia for 24 projects to build, renovate, and restore the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument and repair and upgrade the working headquarters of the National Council of the Cambodian Fatherland Front for Solidarity and Development; in 2024, it provided funding for the construction of a road leading to the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument in Siem Reap province; in 2025, it provided funding for the renovation and restoration of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument in Mundunkiri and Prey Veng provinces and the construction of a new Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument in Pusat province.

Through discussions, both sides agreed to continue effectively implementing the contents signed at previous meetings between the two sides; to closely coordinate and direct the acceleration of the project to build, renovate, and restore the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments in Cambodia (which have received funding from Vietnam) ensuring progress, quality, and effectiveness; to continue reviewing the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments that have received funding for construction, renovation, and restoration; and to organize the inauguration and handover to Cambodian localities for management, preservation, and protection after the completion of construction work.

Both sides reaffirmed that the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments in the Kingdom of Cambodia are significant historical and cultural landmarks representing the relationship between the two countries; therefore, they need to be managed, protected, and their full value promoted to contribute to fostering the solidarity and friendship between the two countries.

Both sides believe that, based on the good neighborly relations, traditional friendship, and comprehensive, sustainable long-term cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia, the policies of the Vietnamese and Cambodian governments regarding the construction, renovation, and restoration of Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments in the Kingdom of Cambodia will be effectively and successfully implemented in the coming time.
