The Girls Takeover event – Empowering Girls – was recently held with the participation of 33 child delegates from 5 provinces: Ha Giang , Lai Chau, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Kon Tum.
At the event, five girls were selected to lead a meeting to discuss and share pressing issues in minority areas and brainstorm solutions.
Sharing her story, Migena Shulla, Country Director of Plan International in Vietnam, said that over 30 years ago, when she entered university, she never thought she would have the opportunity to go abroad. However, now she has lived and worked in four countries with her family. Throughout her career, she has met many wonderful people who have believed in and supported her on her path to development. Therefore, meeting the students today brings her very special emotions, reminding her of her own time in school, just like them.
At the event, the girls, acting as facilitators, discussed pressing issues in minority areas.
"I hope my story can inspire and help you overcome difficulties. No matter the circumstances, opportunities always exist; the important thing is that you bravely seek and seize them. Always be open-minded, willing to learn, and never give up. On the journey of self-development, not only the destination but also every step along the way is worth cherishing. I sincerely hope that one day, I will see you standing here, at a similar event, to share your own inspiring stories and motivate other children," said Migena Shulla.
Girls Takeover is a global initiative by Plan International to promote gender equality and create opportunities for girls and young people to assume leadership roles. Since its launch in 2016, the campaign has generated thousands of events worldwide , where girls not only showcase their leadership potential but also contribute their voices to shaping the future. In Vietnam, the Girls Takeover series of activities has been running for many years and has consistently attracted strong interest from the community and the media.

Beyond simply empowering girls to temporarily assume important roles, the Girls Take Over initiative is symbolic in its pursuit of greater participation in social issues, particularly children's rights and gender equality. By giving girls the opportunity to experience leadership positions within organizations and businesses, the program aims to change societal perceptions of women's roles in all fields.
