On the afternoon of February 2, the City Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City organized the program "Meeting overseas Vietnamese to celebrate the Spring of Giap Thin 2024" within the framework of the program "Spring in the homeland" 2024.
Attending the program were comrades: Truong My Hoa, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, former Vice President; Tran Luu Quang, Deputy Prime Minister; Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; Le Thi Thu Hang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs , Head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese; Nguyen Thi Le, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council; Tran Kim Yen, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee; and more than 1,800 overseas Vietnamese from all continents around the world.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai said that Ho Chi Minh City is honored to be chosen to organize the "Homeland Spring" program in 2024, welcoming overseas Vietnamese to return to Vietnam to celebrate Tet.
The Chairman of the City People's Committee informed overseas Vietnamese about the socio-economic development situation of the City. Accordingly, in 2023, despite many difficulties, with the spirit of efforts to overcome difficulties of the entire political system, the consensus and joint efforts of businesses and all people, with the great contributions of the overseas Vietnamese community, the City has implemented the tasks and targets of socio-economic development in 2023 and achieved a number of important results.
The City's gross regional domestic product (GRDP) reached 5.81%; budget revenue reached 448,826 billion VND... In particular, remittances to Ho Chi Minh City in 2023 reached more than 9.5 billion USD, an increase of 43.3% compared to 2022. This is the highest growth rate in the past 10 years.
Comrade Phan Van Mai assessed that in 2024, Ho Chi Minh City will still face many difficulties, but there will also be many development opportunities, especially with Resolution 98 of the National Assembly on piloting a number of specific mechanisms and policies to develop Ho Chi Minh City.
On that basis, the City also determined to implement the theme of 2024 as being determined to effectively implement digital transformation and Resolution 98 with specific goals.
Expressing sincere thanks for the valuable and meaningful contributions of overseas Vietnamese, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee affirmed that the City will always create the best conditions for overseas Vietnamese to continue to participate and contribute to the development of the City and the whole country.
Comrade Phan Van Mai expressed his wish that overseas Vietnamese would join hands with the Party Committee, Government and People of the City, actively contribute to all economic - cultural - social fields, especially paying attention to investing in key projects and works, contributing to the efforts to complete the targets of the Resolution of the 11th City Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025 and the City's socio-economic recovery and development program for the period 2022 - 2025.
“I also expect that people will not only turn to their homeland through remittances and investments, but also contribute knowledge and technology. We will listen, absorb and improve,” affirmed Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Phan Van Mai.
Sending New Year wishes of peace, happiness and the best things to come to overseas Vietnamese, on behalf of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee and people of Ho Chi Minh City, comrade Phan Van Mai also sent wishes that the love and desire to contribute to the homeland will become the driving force to help overseas Vietnamese move forward to new successes in the year of Giap Thin 2024./.
