The Tay people's wet rice cultivation practice is a national intangible cultural heritage.

On the evening of February 8, Lam Binh district, Tuyen Quang province held a ceremony to receive "Knowledge and practices of growing wet rice of the Tay people" as a national intangible cultural heritage.


Lam Binh district is home to 12 ethnic groups, of which the Tay ethnic group accounts for 62% of the population. During the process of living, working and producing, the Tay people in Lam Binh have formed distinct and unique cultural values.

The Tay people's tradition of wet rice cultivation in Lam Binh is expressed through the indigenous knowledge system, including knowledge, experience, and techniques in wet rice cultivation. From generation to generation, the people have continuously created, transformed, and accumulated experiences in wet rice cultivation suitable to the soil, climate, terrain, and local customs and practices.

Along with that, the Tay people's rice cultivation is associated with village institutions, rituals, festivals, and seasonal cuisine that are maintained, preserved, and passed down through many generations, playing an indispensable role in the life of the community and the unique Tay culture.


Representatives of Tuyen Quang province and Lam Binh district leaders received the Certificate of National Intangible Cultural Heritage "Knowledge and practices of wet rice cultivation of the Tay people".

In order to preserve, maintain and promote the value of the knowledge of wet rice cultivation of the Tay people in Lam Binh. The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism signed a Decision to announce the list of national intangible cultural heritages, including the Certificate of "Knowledge and practices of wet rice cultivation of the Tay people" in Lang Can town and the communes: Hong Quang, Khuon Ha, Thuong Lam, Phuc Yen, Lam Binh district, Tuyen Quang province.
