By noon on December 14th, medical facilities had received and treated over 50 suspected cases of food poisoning, some of whom have been discharged, while others are still receiving treatment at the hospital.
According to Mr. Nguyen Huan, Director of Phuc Hung Private General Hospital, from the afternoon of December 13th to 11:00 AM on December 14th, the hospital received 52 suspected cases of food poisoning. The patients reported having eaten bread at the HV bakery.
According to Mr. Do Ngoc Hoa, Deputy Director of the Quang Ngai Department of Health, samples of patients and food have been taken by authorities for testing. However, it will take about 7 days to get the results. After receiving the results, authorities will be able to determine the specific cause, the type of bacteria causing the disease, and the stage of transmission in the food chain.
“While awaiting the results of the investigation into the cause of the poisoning, the Department has requested the HV bread chain to temporarily cease operations to facilitate inspection and sample testing. All related businesses have also been ordered to stop production, be sealed, and closely monitored to prevent further sales. At the same time, functional units have been requested to strengthen inspections of food safety conditions at food service establishments and street food vendors throughout the province, and to intensify the dissemination of information on measures to prevent food poisoning and foodborne illnesses,” Mr. Hoa emphasized.
Previously, as reported by the Vietnam News Agency (TTXVN), on December 13th, Phuc Hung Private General Hospital admitted 15 people with symptoms of fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, high fever, and headache. These individuals all stated they had eaten bread from HV bakery at various locations in Cam Thanh ward, Nghia Lo district. Doctors there diagnosed them with food poisoning.
