In 1972, the 538th Youth Volunteer Company - N53 - P18 was assigned to station at strategic route 21 with the main task of clearing roads and traffic, all for the front line with the slogan: "Blood can be shed, hearts can stop beating, but the traffic arteries cannot be blocked". At exactly 7:30 a.m. on September 18, 1972, while the unit was on a mission to fill bomb craters, it was bombed by American planes. Under the rain of bombs, 6 female comrades of the 538th Youth Volunteer Company heroically sacrificed their lives at a very young age, the youngest being only 17 years old.
