After setting sail at 3 a.m., Mr. Tran Xuan Tao from Quang Dai commune, Sam Son city, Thanh Hoa province, excitedly said: "After Tet, we fishermen start going out to sea again to catch herring. On average, my boat catches 2-3 quintals of herring per day, and on better days, about 4-5 quintals. It's the beginning of the season, so the price of herring is high, bringing a significant income to us fishermen."

It's the beginning of the season, so both the yield and price of herring are currently high.

As soon as the boats docked, traders were waiting to buy the fish. The herring were unloaded by the fishermen and lay scattered on the nets. Although it was only the beginning of the season, the catch of herring was quite large, making the fishermen extremely happy.

According to local fishermen, herring is easy to catch, but the most laborious part is shaking the nets to remove the fish. When they catch a lot, they have to mobilize the whole family, or even borrow extra people, to help remove the fish in time.

Herring lies scattered on the shore after fishing trips by fishermen from the Thanh Hoa coastal region using vessels such as rafts and boats.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung from Quang Dai ward, Sam Son city, said that the value of herring is not high compared to many other types of fish, however, during the season, each fishing boat or raft can catch several hundred kilograms. With the high selling price of herring at the beginning of the season, each boat or raft can earn millions of dong per day upon returning to shore.

According to local fishermen, this is the beginning of the season, so the price of herring is quite high, ranging from 20,000 to 25,000 VND/kg. Towards the middle of the season, the price will be even cheaper, so fishermen are taking advantage of this time to go out to sea.

These days, the coastal areas of Thanh Hoa province are filled with a "forest" of national flags fluttering on boats and rafts, giving the fishing villages a renewed sense of vitality at the beginning of the year.
