Thanh Ky improves the effectiveness of forest protection and development

While guiding us to visit his family's forest farm, Mr. Lam Ngoc Hai (Thanh Ky commune) said: "Based on his passion for forestry, when the Party and the State had policies on land allocation, forest allocation, and forest protection (BVR) contracts for communities and households, my family proactively contracted forestry land in the area with an area of nearly 40 hectares. Currently, in addition to the well-protected natural forest area, my family has planted and cared for 12.6 hectares of large timber forest, including 2.6 hectares of hybrid acacia with self-invested capital; livestock and poultry are growing and dozens of honey bee colonies under the forest canopy, contributing to improving life. The average income of the family each year is about 200 million VND. In addition to the State's support policy, my family hopes that Thanh Ky commune will continue to attract businesses to cooperate with forest owners from planting, caring to consuming products, so that the development of planted forests for timber business can be developed. "Only large ones are truly effective and sustainable."

Comrade Nguyen Van Son, Vice Chairman of Thanh Ky Commune People's Committee, shared: Thanh Ky Commune was established on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population of Thanh Ky Commune and the remaining part of Thanh Tan Commune (old Nhu Thanh District). Currently, Thanh Ky Commune has 10,278.88 hectares of forestry land, of which 8,772.94 hectares are planted production forests, the remaining area is protective forest. To protect the roots, Thanh Ky Commune has issued documents to effectively implement Directive No. 13-CT/TW dated January 12, 2017 of the Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in forest management, protection and development. Review and supplement the plan for forest protection and fire prevention and fighting (PCCCR) according to the "4 on-site" motto; develop a plan for forest fire fighting (CCR) operations, a CCR operation map to proactively respond to forest fire situations. Build forest protection teams in villages and hamlets, paying special attention to key areas at risk of forest insecurity.

Along with the socialization of forest protection work, Thanh Ky commune has been proactively implementing solutions to form concentrated, specialized and intensive production forest planting areas, large-scale forestry products, linking forest planting with processing and forest product consumption markets, improving production efficiency, forest use, attracting and creating more jobs, increasing income for forest workers, protecting the ecological environment. The focus is on planting forests with high-quality forestry trees, tissue-cultured trees, increasing income value for forest owners. Promoting processing activities, applying science and technology, improving quality associated with product consumption. Calling on a number of businesses to work with forest owners in the area to link investment from the stage of applying science and technology to intensive forest planting; selecting seedlings for high yield, good wood quality; exploiting according to technical processes, to be granted a sustainable forest management certificate (FSC).

In recent months, Thanh Ky commune has assigned staff to coordinate with the Nhu Thanh Protective Forest Management Board to regularly visit the village to provide technical guidance and organize households to plant new production forests in the direction of intensive cultivation such as tissue-cultured acacia, acacia cuttings... to improve the efficiency of new forest planting. Focus on propaganda so that people in the area understand the outstanding advantages of tissue-cultured trees such as fast and even growth, higher wood biomass, low pest and disease infection rate... Mobilize forest owners to overcome difficulties and invest in expanding the area of new forest planting and replanting after exploitation with tissue-cultured trees; thereby improving the productivity and quality of planted forests.

As a result, in nearly 10 months of 2025, Thanh Ky commune provided technical guidance, provided seedlings, and organized households to contract forestry production land to plant new and replant exploited forests according to regulations on more than 101.5 hectares, including 70 hectares of hybrid acacia. In general, the entire planted forest area has been and is being cared for, protected, and prevented from pests and diseases, growing well. The work of zoning and protecting forests has been actively participated by households, groups of households, and representatives of the village community.

Currently, Thanh Ky Commune People's Committee has been coordinating with relevant units to improve management efficiency, forest protection, improve the quality of planted forests, striving for the commune to have 5,843 hectares of forest certified by the International Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC), the value of wood is increased, and it is qualified to export to international markets. In the commune, there are more than 3 companies, cooperatives and facilities for purchasing and processing forest products.

Thanks to active planting and forest protection, Thanh Ky commune people have more jobs on the spot, income from labor and forest products, contributing to hunger eradication, poverty reduction, improving living standards, promoting the new rural construction program in the region. Notable results, the entire existing forest area of Thanh Ky commune is safely protected, no forest fires, no illegal deforestation. The area of depleted natural forests has been restored and developed stably. Forest security in the area is maintained. Multi-layered, multi-canopy forests not only promote protective functions but also create water sources for irrigation works.
