On October 10th, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dung, Chief Inspector of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province, stated that following the inspection report's conclusion, the Department's leadership issued a directive instructing Ngoc Lac High School to conduct a review of the responsibilities of the officials and teachers directly involved in the errors and incorrect grading that caused a student taking the entrance exam for 10th grade at Le Hong Phong High School (Bim Son town) to go from failing to passing as the top scorer.
Le Hong Phong High School (Bim Son) - where the incident of mistakenly assigning the wrong scores occurred, causing a student who failed the exam to become the top scorer.
Accordingly, the examination board decided to discipline Ms. Ngo Thi Tuyet, a teacher at Ngoc Lac High School, with a reprimand; and to conduct a review and learn from the experience for the following officials and teachers: Mr. Vu Ngoc Liem, Principal of Ngoc Lac High School; and Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh, Ms. Vu Thi Thuy, and Ms. Tran Thi Tu, all teachers at Ngoc Lac High School.
According to Mr. Dung, the Department also bears some responsibility in this matter. "The examination board consists of five people, including Mr. Vu Ngoc Liem, the chairman of the examination board and principal of Ngoc Lac High School, and four others involved in the stages of reading scores, entering scores, controlling reading, and controlling recording. We have requested this board to conduct a review and clarify the responsibilities of the individuals involved," Mr. Dung stated.
The Chief Inspector of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province also stated that they have requested the Principal of Le Hong Phong High School (Bim Son town) to discuss and consult with the student's family and find a suitable private school for the student to continue their studies. However, allowing this student to attend a public school is not possible.
Previously, on October 9-10, the Inspectorate of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province announced the results of its verification of a complaint regarding a candidate named CTH, in examination room number 6 at the Le Hong Phong High School examination board (Bim Son town), who had average academic performance but achieved unusually high scores in the 10th grade entrance exam.
According to the Inspectorate of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province, after receiving complaints, the department established an inspection team and discovered discrepancies in the exam results of candidate CTH (born in 2009, registration number 721xxx) at the Le Hong Phong High School examination board in Bim Son town during the 2024-2025 10th grade entrance exam.
Specifically, the announced scores for candidate CTH were: Math 8 points, Literature 8.5 points, English 6.4 points. However, upon checking the exam papers, the actual results were only Math 4.5 points, Literature 6.5 points, and English 2.4 points.
According to the Inspectorate of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province, the cause of this incident is believed to be a "mistake" in the process of reviewing and assigning scores at the Ngoc Lac High School Examination Board.
According to the explanation from the grading committee of Ngoc Lac High School, the reason for the incorrect scoring was due to work pressure and a lack of concentration during the grading process, leading to an unintentional error in recording the exam scores.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dung, Chief Inspector of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province, said that during the inspection and verification process, the family and the Examination Council affirmed that there were no negative elements in the erroneous entry of the candidate's scores.
Previously, when the admission scores for 10th grade at Le Hong Phong High School for the 2024-2025 school year were announced, CTH students were the top scorers.
