In a document dated December 12, the Sports Authority of Thailand (THASOC), represented by Dr. Gongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand and Secretary-General of THASOC, expressed its deepest apologies for the shortcomings in organization and broadcasting.
THASOC acknowledges that the incident directly relates to the issue of sovereignty and territorial integrity, a particularly sensitive topic, and has caused discomfort and affected the sentiments among the countries participating in the SEA Games 33 - 2025.
Previously, during the opening ceremony held on the evening of December 9th at the Rajamangala National Stadium, the map of Vietnam shown in the performance "We Are One – Connected by the SEA" omitted the Hoang Sa archipelago, the Truong Sa archipelago, and Phu Quoc island, causing strong reactions from the public.

Thailand has sent a letter of apology for the mistakes at the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games.
Beyond the map glitch, THASOC also issued an apology regarding technical errors during the live broadcast of the 3x3 basketball game, where the national flags of several teams, including Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos, and the Philippines, were displayed incorrectly.
The SEA Games 33 organizing committee affirmed that it will seriously learn from past mistakes, coordinate with relevant units to review all technical procedures, content, and communication, and strengthen control to avoid repeating similar errors during the remainder of the Games.
In conclusion, THASOC also offered its apologies to the Vietnam Olympic Committee and all relevant parties, demonstrating its sense of responsibility and goodwill in ensuring the image and prestige of the SEA Games, the largest sporting event in Southeast Asia.
