Speaking at the conference, Mr. Tran Chi Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, said that France has a great film industry with a rich history not only in Europe but also in the world . It is a film industry with abundant and intense creativity and breakthroughs, with the profound and powerful role of "autistic cinema" and "art cinema". The imprint of its directorial style, its emphasis on expressive forms, and its varan (direct documentary) filmmaking style have given French films throughout various periods a unique and unmistakable style, spreading artistic inspiration to film industries worldwide – including Vietnam.

According to Mr. Cuong, France is famous for the Cannes Film Festival – the oldest film festival – and dozens of other film festivals, both large and small, which have been the cradle for the development of the film industry. Throughout the long history of French-Vietnamese cultural exchange, French and Vietnamese cinema have always had close and meaningful relationships. Many French films (and French filmmaking technology and culture) have been produced in Vietnam since very early times. Many Vietnamese directors (or French directors of Vietnamese origin) have participated in and been honored at major film festivals in France in particular, and Europe in general (such as Tran Anh Hung, Bui Thac Chuyen, Phan Dang Di, Nguyen Hoang Diep, Pham Nhue Giang, Tran Phuong Thao...).

Mr. Cuong hopes that the workshop will be an opportunity for Vietnamese artists and filmmakers to exchange and learn from each other's experiences in film production and distribution in general, and in the production of varan (documentary) films in particular, as well as issues related to special effects and post-production; and at the same time, introduce their business activities in order to identify needs and areas for film cooperation between Vietnam and France in the context of international integration and globalization.

The Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee emphasized that the city is committed to implementing appropriate mechanisms and policies to support and attract investment and cooperation from domestic and foreign businesses and investors in the film industry, aiming to promote the future development of Da Nang's film industry.

Speaking at the seminar, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Film Promotion Association, said that Vietnamese and French cinema share a long history. In the early 1990s, three major films were simultaneously shot in Vietnam: "Indochine," " Dien Bien Phu," and "The Lover." These films helped to broaden and deepen Vietnam's international recognition. French cinema, to some extent, contributed to the popularity of Vietnamese cinema with French films based on Vietnamese themes.

However, recently, no major and important film like this has been shot in Vietnam. Therefore, this workshop is an opportunity for filmmakers, especially leading French film experts, to exchange and share more about the connection and cooperation in film between the two countries. More importantly, the bridge to Asia begins to be built from Da Nang, and thanks to Vietnam's other relationships, it will bridge from Asia to Europe, from East to West.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong said that this is the second time the Da Nang Asian Film Festival is being held, with French cinema as its focus. This is a very important event in the development of Vietnamese cinema as well as the relationship between Vietnam and France in general, especially in the field of cinema.

In the 1980s, French cinema was very familiar to Vietnam, with many French films screened in Vietnam and winning the hearts of many audiences. However, in the 1990s and 2000s, contact between the two countries' cinemas declined due to various objective and subjective reasons.

Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong highly appreciated the efforts of the French Embassy in bringing about a new breakthrough, introducing more images of French cinema to Vietnam. This is an opportunity for experts to learn many lessons and experiences, and especially to develop film cooperation between the two countries.

Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong expressed his hope that the results of the workshop would serve as a bridge to develop Vietnamese and French cinema in particular, as well as to further strengthen the connection between Vietnam and France.

French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet shared France's desire to cooperate with Vietnam in developing its film industry. He stated that France is ready to support young Vietnamese filmmakers in accessing French and international cinema; and hopes that French films will become more widely known to the Vietnamese public, with the expectation that the film industries of both countries will continue to develop strongly in the future.

At the conference, experts and delegates discussed in two sessions. Session 1 was "French Cinema and its Relationship with Vietnamese Cinema," and Session 2 was a film roundtable discussion titled "French-Vietnamese Cinema Exchange and Cooperation: Interdisciplinary and Intercultural Issues," covering various topics such as: French cinema, Vietnamese cinema, perspectives from both sides; French cinema on Vietnamese themes - journeys back to memory; Art film production in the context of globalization: French experience and suggestions for Vietnamese cinema; The many paths to international film awards for Vietnamese cinema, suggestions from Tran Anh Hung's film "Many Flavors of the World"; Global integration through films by contemporary young Vietnamese directors: the influence of the French "New Wave" cinema; Varan film style and the influence of French documentary cinema on Vietnamese documentary cinema.../.
