Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh receives WHO Director General

According to VNA special correspondent, on July 6 local time, in Rio de Janeiro city, Brazil, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Expressing his pleasure at meeting Mr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus again, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated and thanked the WHO for its effective efforts and contributions in supporting Vietnam to be one of the few countries that successfully combated the COVID-19 pandemic and recovered quickly afterward. He also affirmed that Vietnam always values ​​developing cooperation with the WHO to ensure public health.

Sharing that Vietnam is focusing on building a grassroots healthcare system and paying more attention to helping people prevent diseases, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always closely monitors and regularly consults the recommendations of the WHO and other international organizations regarding the disease situation in the world in recent times.

In that spirit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested the WHO to continue to play its leading role in researching disease and epidemic situations, providing timely assessments and warnings, and further promoting international cooperation in the fields of health and disease prevention. The Prime Minister requested the WHO to send experts to advise Vietnam on improving institutional policies, developing the grassroots healthcare system, improving the living environment of the people, and creating further progress for sustainable public health development.

The WHO Director-General agreed with the proposals of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, highly appreciated Vietnam's correct policies and efforts in responding to the epidemic, developing grassroots healthcare, and providing healthcare for all citizens, and affirmed his readiness to support and advise Vietnam as requested by the Prime Minister.

Both sides agreed to strengthen coordination between Vietnam and WHO in the international community's joint efforts for human safety and health, as well as joint efforts in effectively preventing and controlling infectious diseases.
