Prime Minister officially visits Qatar - the country with the highest income in the world

(Dan Tri) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh paid an official visit to Qatar at the invitation of his counterpart. Qatar is a country with strong economic potential, one of the countries with the highest per capita income in the world.

On the afternoon of October 30 (local time), the plane carrying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation landed at Doha International Airport, beginning an official visit to the State of Qatar. Welcoming the Prime Minister at the airport were Minister of State Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed; Director of Protocol Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Ibrahim Yousuf Abdullah Fakhro and Vietnamese Ambassador to Qatar. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh paid an official visit to Qatar at the invitation of his counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jasim Al-Thani, from October 30 to November 1.

Qatar is a country with strong economic potential, one of the countries with the highest per capita income in the world . It is also the leading financial and commercial center in the Middle East, the world's largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG). According to Qatari Ambassador to Vietnam Khalid Ali Abdullah Abeli, the Prime Minister's visit this time reflects a shift towards strengthening relations between the two countries. The two sides are expected to focus on economic and investment fields, developing the Halal industry in Vietnam and enhancing trade exchanges, cooperation in the fields of tourism, clean energy and green growth. The Ambassador added that the leaders of the two countries want to share a common vision and desire to develop bilateral relations to a higher level, commensurate with their potential and position. During the visit, a number of cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding on deepening bilateral cooperation towards a higher level of partnership are expected to be signed. "I am optimistic that the relationship between the two countries will enter a new era, after 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations," according to the Ambassador. According to him, Qatar with its financial resources, globally connected technology, and Vietnam with its economic capacity, natural resources, geographical advantages and position in the global supply chain, can bring huge economic benefits to both countries. "Qatar can become Vietnam's gateway to the Middle East and North Africa, and Vietnam can act as a bridge for Qatar to the Asia-Pacific region," the Ambassador said.

Vietnam and Qatar established diplomatic relations on February 8, 1993. During the 2019-2023 period, the total two-way trade exchange averaged 400 million USD per year. Two-way trade turnover in 2023 reached 497 million USD (up 32% compared to 2022), of which Vietnam exported more than 211 million USD to Qatar. Regarding investment, Qatar currently has 1 investment project in Vietnam in the field of processing and manufacturing industry with a total registered capital of 3.23 million USD. According to information from Qatar, the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) is participating in indirect investment (through Development Banks, Third-party Investment Funds) in a number of real estate and industrial projects in Vietnam with a total capital of about 500 million USD. There are currently about 300 Vietnamese people in Qatar, mainly temporary unskilled workers working on a number of projects, the remaining few are families of engineers working for Qatari companies, foreign companies in Qatar and women married to foreigners working locally.
