Further promoting Vietnam-Spain defense cooperation

On the afternoon of December 9, in Hanoi, General Nguyen Tan Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Deputy Minister of National Defense , received Ms. Carmen Cano De Lasala, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Spain to Vietnam.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong highly appreciated the strong developments in the Vietnam-Spain relationship, from politics -diplomacy, defense-security, to economics-trade, culture-sports-tourism, especially the first official visit to Vietnam by the Spanish Prime Minister (April 2025) since the two countries established diplomatic relations (May 1977).

At the same time, General Nguyen Tan Cuong expressed his belief that in the coming time, the relationship between the two countries will increasingly develop in an effective and substantive direction, commensurate with the framework of the Strategic Partnership.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong emphasized that in the overall Vietnam-Spain relationship, defense cooperation is one of the areas that senior leaders of the two countries have paid attention to promoting, achieving many positive results in recent times.

The General thanked the Spanish Ministry of Defense for its support for the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition through sending a delegation to attend and having booths at the exhibition; in particular, Airbus Group participated in both exhibitions in 2022 and 2024.

On this occasion, the General respectfully invited the Ambassador, the Ministry of National Defense and Spanish defense industry enterprises to attend the upcoming 3rd Vietnam International Defense Exhibition.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong suggested that in the coming time, the two sides continue to well implement the cooperation orientations based on the common perception of the two countries' senior leaders, focusing on the following areas: delegation exchanges at all levels; training; defense industry; United Nations peacekeeping ; coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums; thereby, contributing to promoting bilateral cooperation in an increasingly effective and substantive direction.

The General hopes to continue receiving the Ambassador's support and attention to further promote the Vietnam-Spain defense cooperation, commensurate with the potential and wishes of both sides.

Ms. Carmen Cano De Lasala thanked General Nguyen Tan Cuong for taking the time to meet her, and emphasized that 2025 is an important milestone in Vietnam-Spain cooperation.

Affirming that Vietnam is a reliable partner of Spain, including in the field of defense, Ambassador Carmen Cano De Lasala expressed her wish that the two sides continue to deepen bilateral defense cooperation in many fields, especially defense industry and United Nations peacekeeping.../.
