Attending the Dialogue were Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy; representative of the Central Policy and Strategy Committee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper; Director of the Weatherhead East Asia Institute, Professor Nguyen Thi Lien Hang; Senior Advisor of the Weatherhead East Asia Institute, Mr. Thomas Vallely; and a number of Vietnamese and foreign enterprises and associations.
In her opening speech at the Dialogue, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang assessed that the world situation is evolving in a complex and rapid manner with increasing instability and uncertainty. In that context, Vietnam continues to steadfastly pursue peace, stability and sustainable development, promoting the implementation of socio -economic development goals through efforts to build an independent and self-reliant economy associated with deep international integration; persistently pursuing a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, multilateralization and diversification of international relations.
The Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; emphasizing that the bilateral relationship over the past three decades has continuously developed and deepened, demonstrated through the active exchange of delegations at all levels, increasingly strong economic, scientific and technological cooperation, and the increasingly close relationship between the two peoples.
Appreciating the cooperation on the education and training pillar between Vietnam and the United States, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang emphasized that exchange programs such as Fulbright and university linkages between the two countries not only promote knowledge exchange, improve the quality of human resources and improve institutional capacity, but also contribute to narrowing cultural differences and ensuring that people of both countries benefit from common progress.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang expressed her belief that the Vietnam Leadership Program (VLP) initiative will continue the success of the Vietnam Executive Leadership Program (VELP), and affirmed her support and hope that the VLP will soon be specifically implemented.
At the discussion session, US experts, scholars and delegates highly appreciated the orientation of the Party and State of Vietnam in the new development period, especially taking science and technology, green transformation, and digital transformation as the main growth drivers, considering human resource development as a key factor.
In particular, the dynamic and pioneering development of the Vietnamese private sector, especially in the field of science and technology, was actively welcomed. Delegates also proposed a number of specific solutions to drastically implement the Party's policies on science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation, institutional and legal reform, private sector development and energy security, thereby contributing to realizing Vietnam's goal of rapid and sustainable growth.
