Since last night, September 21, many delegations of leaders, dignitaries, intellectuals and people of Ho Chi Minh City have visited historian and researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau at his private home (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City). The delegation of the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, led by Politburo member and Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen, offered condolences to the family and burned incense to bid farewell to researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau.
Along with the delegation of leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, many delegations representing agencies, organizations of the city and neighboring provinces and cities also came to pay their respects, send wreaths and express condolences to the family of the researcher who has made many contributions to the study of culture, history of Ho Chi Minh City and the sovereignty of Vietnam's seas and islands.
Writing in the condolence book when visiting, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, on behalf of the Standing Committee, wrote in the condolence book: "Deeply mourning the scholar, historian Nguyen Dinh Dau.... The outstanding intellectual has made many scientific contributions in the fields of history and geography, with many research works on Vietnam's territory, for the cause of Great National Unity, contributing to protecting the independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Fatherland".
According to the family representative, Historian Nguyen Dinh Dau (born in 1920, birth certificate in 1923, in Hanoi), passed away at 12:55 p.m. on September 20, 2024, at the age of 104. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his children, grandchildren and extended family in Ho Chi Minh City.
Historian and researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau was at that time a member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Catholic Solidarity Committee in Ho Chi Minh City and a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Ho Chi Minh City.
Before passing away, Tre Publishing House had time to launch the last reference book of Historian and Researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau, titled: "The public land and communal land regime in the history of land reclamation and settlement in the Six Southern Provinces". This is a book with many valuable synthesis documents and assessments for the research of Southern history.
Previously, the book "Hoang Sa - Truong Sa belong to Vietnam" is the intellectual product of a group of researchers on Vietnamese seas and islands, including researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau, and has been reprinted many times.
During his lifetime, he also participated in revolutionary activities in France, together with intellectuals Hoang Xuan Han, Nguyen Manh Ha,... participating in the movement calling on the French Government to negotiate with the Ho Chi Minh Government. In 1954, he and other patriotic Vietnamese intellectuals went to Switzerland to support the delegation led by Mr. Pham Van Dong to attend the Geneva Conference.
After the funeral, the memorial service for Historian and Researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau will take place from tomorrow morning (September 23). The funeral will be held at 6:00 a.m. on the same day, September 23. After that, his coffin will be taken to the Binh Hung Hoa Cremation Center (Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City) for burial.
