According to Mr. Alang Mai - Head of the Provincial Ethnic Minorities Committee, the changes in mountainous localities in recent times have had many imprints from the contributions of village elders, village chiefs, and prestigious people.
“In the 2023-2027 period, Quang Nam will have 386 prestigious people among ethnic minorities. Promoting their role and voice, village elders and prestigious people will become an important connection channel to help convey the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws to the community in a timely and effective manner,” Mr. Mai shared.
Prestigious people set an example
The 6th Ngoc Linh ginseng festival has just been organized by the People's Committee of Nam Tra My district. Different from previous years, this year's festival program took place with an additional meaningful activity stemming from the spirit and sharing of ginseng growers in the area: Auctioning Ngoc Linh ginseng to raise funds to support the demolition of temporary houses for people in difficulty.
Mr. Nguyen The Phuoc - Vice Chairman of Nam Tra My District People's Committee said that before the opening day of the festival, when the ginseng auction was just suggested, it immediately received positive response from ginseng growers in the district.
The district leaders were very excited because after compiling the registration list, there were 11 households, individuals, and businesses volunteering to donate ginseng roots that won prizes in the ginseng competition for the local government to auction and raise funds for charity.

“After the auction, we collected more than 360 million VND to support the demolition of temporary houses, helping poor households stabilize their lives, following the call of Provincial Party Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet,” Mr. Phuoc shared.
But, the interesting thing about this auction is that in addition to individuals and businesses, there are also many Xo Dang ginseng growers who volunteered to donate. Among them, the most typical is Mr. Nguyen Van Luong (residing in Hamlet 2, Tra Linh Commune) with a "huge" ginseng cluster weighing more than 0.5 kg brought to support. After many auctions, Mr. Luong's ginseng cluster was purchased for nearly 130 million VND.
“The auction is very meaningful because all the money will be used to remove the temporary house. When I received the request from the festival organizers, I chose the most beautiful ginseng bunch in the garden to attend and support,” Mr. Luong confided.
Mr. Luong is no stranger to many people, especially the people in Nam Tra My. Not only is he a prestigious person in the local community, over the years, Mr. Luong has also created jobs for dozens of poor households through his family's ginseng care and protection activities.
In addition to monthly salary, he also supports workers' efforts and even celebrates their birthdays with... ginseng, seeing it as a way to help people escape poverty.
In recent years, Mr. Luong has also instructed workers on effective ginseng growing techniques under the forest canopy. Many people have learned from him, and after a period of working as laborers, have become new ginseng garden owners and have escaped poverty sustainably.

Contribute to community development
Recently, many village elders and prestigious people in the ethnic minority community in the province have actively supported and shared with people in difficult circumstances.
Each person contributes in their own way, from creating jobs, supporting ginseng seeds, to sharing land and gardens, contributing to preserving traditional cultural values... With their passion and exemplary spirit, they have fostered the development of their homeland.
A few years ago, Phuoc Son was one of the mountainous localities that suffered heavy damage from natural disasters and storms. When roads were cut off by floods, many villages and communes in the highlands were isolated and their houses were damaged. Village elders and prestigious people coordinated with the authorities to find ways to bring people to safe shelters at schools and commune committee offices.
After the storm and flood, in order to have a place to establish a new village, many village elders and prestigious people volunteered to share their land and gardens to create conditions for the construction of resettlement areas, helping the community rebuild a new life.
Mr. Do Hoai Xoan - Vice Chairman of Phuoc Son District People's Committee said that the locality currently has 54 prestigious people in the ethnic minority community. Over the years, village elders and prestigious people have always promoted their roles and set examples in economic development.

Many prestigious people, despite their young age, know how to learn good practices, apply scientific and technological advances in animal husbandry and cultivation; contribute their voices to mobilize people to eliminate backward customs, participate in protecting security and order in the locality...
“In the mountains, village elders and influential people are always a solid support to help people feel secure, stabilize their lives, follow their example in economic development, and contribute to preserving traditional culture.
Many preferential policies to support ethnic minority and mountainous areas have been implemented, and have always received positive responses from village elders and prestigious people. They are truly like an “extended arm” in the task of socio-economic development in the locality,” said Mr. Xoan.
