Heavy rain causes widespread flooding, many localities suffer tens of billions of dong in damage

On the morning of December 4, the Provincial Civil Defense Command said that heavy rain from the night of December 3 to this morning had caused serious flooding over a large area, especially in the downstream areas of the Luy River, Cai Phan Thiet River and Long Song River. By 8:00 a.m., the entire province had recorded more than 1,700 affected houses, and floodwater levels continued to rise.

Notably, in Lien Huong commune, 13 boats sank and 25 boats lost their anchors. More than 100 hectares of agricultural land on both banks of Long Song river in Phu Lac and Phuoc The communes (old) were flooded to a depth of over 1.5 m, and some livestock were swept away. According to the People's Committee of Lien Huong commune, by the morning of December 4, more than 1,000 households in Phuoc The hamlets 1 and 2 were flooded from 1-1.5 m. The total initial damage was estimated at over 30 billion VND.

In Luong Son commune, nearly 800 houses in Luong Trung, Luong Tay, Luong Binh, Luong Hoa, Luong Dong, Luong Nam villages... were flooded, with water levels ranging from less than 1 meter to more than 1 meter.

The floods also damaged more than 1,200 household items such as televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, tables and chairs; and flooded about 65 hectares of vegetables and fruit trees. In Luong Hoa and Luong Trung villages, landslides along the Luy River bank with a length of more than 800 m continued to threaten the houses and production of people along both sides of the river. The total damage to Luong Son commune was estimated at over 24 billion VND. As soon as the disaster occurred, local forces mobilized people to move their assets and livestock away from riverside areas and deep flooded areas, prioritizing support for poor households, single-parent households, people with disabilities and families with young children.

In addition, Dong Giang, Song Luy, Tuy Phong, Hong Son, Ham Thang, and Ham Liem communes experienced widespread flooding in agricultural production areas. Localities are currently organizing inspections and damage assessments.

The Provincial Civil Defense Command has been continuing to urge, monitor, and synthesize the situation and developments of impacts and damages caused by natural disasters in localities in the province.

In Hiep Thanh commune, Nam Ban Lam Ha commune, Cam Ly ward - Da Lat, Xuan Huong ward - Da Lat and Lam Vien ward - Da Lat, hundreds of hectares of production land, many houses and infrastructure works were deeply flooded.

In Hiep Thanh alone, more than 400 hectares of crops were flooded, over 70 houses were submerged in water from 1.5 to 2.5 meters, 3 bridges collapsed; authorities evacuated 16 people to safety.

In particular, more than 70 houses were flooded from 1.5 to 2.5 meters deep, 2 houses were damaged and 3 bridges collapsed. Many residential areas were isolated due to rising water, in which National Highway 20 through Dinh An, K'Ren and K'Long villages was heavily flooded. The authorities promptly evacuated 16 people, including the elderly, children and the sick, to safety, without any human casualties.

In Nam Ban Lam Ha commune, Mr. Phan Tien Dung, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, informed that heavy rains had caused Dong Thanh stream to rise, the water flowed rapidly and deeply flooded many houses, including a poultry farm that was completely submerged, with estimated heavy damage. The floods also cut off some residential roads and submerged dozens of hectares of crops. Local authorities have mobilized forces to warn, direct traffic and assist people in evacuating their belongings.

During the night of December 3 to the early morning of December 4, residential areas along Phan Dinh Phung stream and Me Linh low-lying areas in Cam Ly ward - Da Lat, Xuan Huong ward - Da Lat were also deeply flooded. Many residential areas and vegetable and flower gardens on Cach Mang Thang Tam, Trang Trinh, Truong Van Hoan streets (Lam Vien ward - Da Lat) also recorded water flooding into houses, causing damage to property and belongings of many households.

Authorities are continuing to count the damage, support people, update and monitor the situation, and deploy measures to overcome the consequences of floods in affected localities.

The Provincial Civil Defense Command said that the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee has directed the Commune Civil Defense Command along with the police and military forces to support localities in urgently evacuating people and property from flooded areas. Localities strictly implement the "4 on-site" motto, put up warning signs, stretch ropes, and barricades in dangerous areas; absolutely do not be subjective, regularly update warning bulletins - weather forecasts to promptly inform people to proactively prevent, especially the risk of subsidence and landslides. Functional forces are required to arrange vehicles and human resources to organize the evacuation of people from deep flooded areas, fast-flowing water, landslides; ensure food, drinking water and necessities at evacuation sites, not to let people go hungry or lack water. At the same time, strengthen guidance and traffic regulation from afar, resolutely not allowing vehicles to enter dangerous areas. Forces are also urgently dealing with landslides on traffic routes, setting up barriers and warnings at deeply flooded and rapidly flowing areas to ensure safety for people and vehicles.

From 7:00 p.m. on December 3 to 8:00 a.m. on December 4, many areas in the province experienced heavy to very heavy rain. Rainfall recorded in some communes and wards: Tuy Phong 202 mm, Tan Hai 162 mm, Son Dien 148 mm, D'Ran 143 mm, Ham Thuan Bac 122 mm, Ham Thuan 120 mm, Phuoc Hoi 119 mm, Xuan Truong - Da Lat 118 mm, Tan Lap 116 mm, Xuan Huong - Da Lat 109 mm, Lam Vien - Da Lat 107 mm, Cam Ly - Da Lat 106 mm, Nam Ban 87 mm, Ka Do 83 mm, Ham Thanh 83 mm, Song Luy 70 mm, Nam Ha 70 mm...

It is forecasted that in the coming time, Lam Dong will continue to have widespread rain, with moderate to heavy rain in general, and very heavy rain in some places with rainfall from 20-40 mm, and higher than 90 mm in some places.
