Dr. Quach Hoai Nam is the new Principal of Nha Trang University.

Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son announced the decision to recognize Dr. Quach Hoai Nam as Rector of Nha Trang University for the 2020-2025 term, and at the same time directed the school to develop its maritime strengths to become a key regional university.

On September 12, at Nha Trang University ( Khanh Hoa ), Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son attended and announced the decision to recognize Dr. Quach Hoai Nam as Rector of Nha Trang University.

Also attending the ceremony were Dr. Nguyen Ngoc An, Chairman of the Vietnam Education Trade Union; Mr. Nguyen Tan Tuan, former Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, along with leaders of departments, officials and students of the school.

Dr. Quach Hoai Nam was born in 1974, his hometown is Bac Thai Ninh commune, Hung Yen province. Before holding the position of Principal of Nha Trang University, he had a long time working at the school, from lecturer of mechanical engineering (Faculty of Mechanics) to Head of the Graduate School. From May 2015 to January 2025, he was Vice Principal of the school and from January 2025 to August 2025, he was Vice Principal in charge of the school.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Quach Hoai Nam shared that this is not only a personal honor but also a great responsibility to the Ministry of Education and Training, Khanh Hoa province and all staff and students of the school. What is special is that the new principal has been with the school for more than 30 years, having taken on all roles from student, lecturer, manager and today principal.

"With the affection and responsibility of someone who has been attached to the school for more than 30 years, I vow to wholeheartedly serve the school, maintain solidarity and develop the beloved school," Dr. Quach Hoai Nam shared at the ceremony to announce the decision to become principal.

In addition, the new Rector of Nha Trang University also announced the school's development strategy until 2030, with a vision to 2045, with the key goal of becoming a university in the South Central region, with a high ranking in the region. In particular, the school will be the core in training and scientific research, especially in the fields of marine technology, aquaculture and tourism.

Dr. Quach Hoai Nam also emphasized that from 2026, the school will switch to a mechanism of autonomy in regular expenditures, and must urgently prepare to upgrade to become a regional university by 2030 according to the Government's plan for the network of higher education institutions.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Nguyen Kim Son affirmed the strategic position of Nha Trang University and believed that the appointment of a new principal would open a period of stable and sustainable development. He emphasized that the school is facing a golden opportunity to become a key regional university according to the resolution of the Politburo.

"Nha Trang University needs to make a breakthrough based on its strengths in the sea. With more than 3,000 km of coastline in the country, of which Khanh Hoa province has nearly 500 km, the university has the mission of training high-quality human resources in the fields of technology, engineering and marine economy," the Minister directed. He said that this is the way to create a difference and prestige, contributing to the sustainable development of the country.

In addition, the Minister of Education and Training also pointed out that the school needs to take advantage of its favorable geographical location and available resources to develop into a leading training and research center on marine economics in the region.

Nha Trang University, formerly the Faculty of Fisheries, was established in 1959. The school has 66 years of construction and development, of which nearly 50 years have been associated with Khanh Hoa. Currently, this is a multidisciplinary, multi-field university with a training scale of about 16,000 students, 37 undergraduate majors, 17 master's majors and 11 doctoral majors. The school has a staff of 445 permanent lecturers, of which 41% have doctoral degrees, including 2 professors and 31 associate professors. With its strengths in marine science and technology and fisheries, the school has established a cooperative network with more than 100 universities, research institutes and international organizations, and cooperated with more than 200 domestic and foreign enterprises.
