Continue to promote bilateral relations between Vietnam and Indonesia in the coming time

Expressing pleasure at the rapid and effective development of the Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership in all fields, the two leaders agreed on major directions to further promote bilateral relations in the coming time, practically commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership and looking forward to the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.

Accordingly, the two sides will promote delegation exchanges, high-level contacts and all-level contacts, Party and State channels, people-to-people exchanges, continue to promote parliamentary cooperation channels and cooperative relations between localities of the two countries.

During the talks, Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani warmly welcomed and highly appreciated the significance of the first official visit to Indonesia by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, and also the first visit to Indonesia by a Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman in 13 years.

The visit took place on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership (2013-2023), making an important contribution to further developing the traditional friendship and strategic partnership, including parliamentary cooperation, between the two countries in a deeper and more substantive way.

The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives affirmed that Vietnam is a strategically important partner of Indonesia in the region.

For his part, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue thanked the Indonesian House of Representatives for the warm and friendly reception and respectfully conveyed to the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives the greetings and best wishes for good health from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The Speaker of the National Assembly congratulated the Indonesian House of Representatives on successfully hosting the G-20 Parliamentary Forum (P20), contributing to Indonesia's excellent fulfillment of its responsibilities as G-20 Chair in 2022; and expressed confidence that Indonesia will successfully assume the roles of ASEAN Chair in 2023 and AIPA Chair in 2023.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue emphasized: Vietnam attaches great importance to developing the strategic partnership with Indonesia, with a solid foundation of traditional friendship built by President Ho Chi Minh and President Soekarno, and diligently nurtured by generations of leaders and people of both countries.

The two sides agreed to strive to increase two-way trade to over 15 billion USD in the coming time and towards a more balanced direction, facilitating trade, reducing trade barriers and promoting the development of new strategic supply chains, taking advantage of the potential and strengths of both sides.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue proposed that Indonesia open its market to Vietnamese agricultural products, especially Halal foods and fruits (such as lychees, longans, etc.), and continue to facilitate and encourage Vietnamese enterprises to operate production and business in Indonesia.

Both sides agreed to strengthen measures to promote and facilitate businesses from both countries to diversify areas of investment and business cooperation; share experiences in legislative work, creating a legal framework for the two countries to cooperate in areas of global importance, especially just energy transition and secure digital transformation.

The two leaders also agreed to strengthen cooperation in other important areas, including culture, education, tourism, promoting people-to-people exchanges, enhancing connectivity through increased frequency of direct commercial flights, and expressing their desire to open a direct Hanoi-Jakarta flight route.

Both sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation in maritime affairs and fisheries, and to promote the resolution of issues related to IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) fishing.

Discussing regional and international issues, in the context of complex and unpredictable developments, the two leaders agreed to continue strengthening consultations and close coordination between the two countries in regional and international forums.

The two sides will cooperate closely in multilateral parliamentary forums such as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF); promote ASEAN solidarity and its central role; and support each other's positions on regional and international issues of common concern.

The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of peace, stability, safety, security, and freedom of navigation in the South China Sea; coordinated efforts to maintain ASEAN's solidarity and common stance on the South China Sea issue; promoted the implementation of the DOC; and closely coordinated in negotiating an effective, efficient, and legally sound COC in accordance with international law and UNCLOS 1982.

On this occasion, the Speaker of the National Assembly respectfully invited Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani to visit Vietnam at a suitable time. The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives happily accepted the invitation.

The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives announced that a delegation will be sent to attend the 9th Global Young Parliamentarians Conference, hosted by the Vietnamese National Assembly, in September.

At the conclusion of the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between the two legislative bodies. The two parliamentary leaders also co-chaired a press conference to announce the results of the talks.
