Funeral held for former Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers Tran Phuong with state-level ceremony

Held the funeral of comrade Tran Phuong, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now Deputy Prime Minister), with State funeral ceremony.

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam , the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of:

Comrade Tran Phuong (birth name: Vu Van Dung), born on November 1, 1927; birthplace: Xuan Duc Commune, My Hao District, Hung Yen Province (now Duong Hao Ward, Hung Yen Province); permanent residence: 28 Tang Bat Ho Street, Hai Ba Trung Ward, Hanoi City; participated in revolutionary activities in September 1943; joined the Party in September 1945. He was formerly an alternate member of the Central Committee of the Party, 4th term; a member of the Central Committee of the Party, 5th term; Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now Deputy Prime Minister); Minister of Internal Trade (now the Ministry of Industry and Trade ); Vice Chairman of the State Planning Committee; and a member of the National Assembly, 7th term.

After a period of serious illness, despite the dedicated care and treatment from the Party, the State, a team of professors, doctors, and family, due to old age and weakness, Comrade passed away at 6:02 AM on October 18, 2025 (corresponding to the 27th day of the 8th lunar month of the Year of the Snake) at the Central Military Hospital 108, at the age of 98.

During 80 years of revolutionary activity, Comrade has made many achievements and contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. Comrade has been awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order, the 80-Year Party Membership Badge, and many other prestigious medals and awards by the Party and the State.

To express sorrow and acknowledge the achievements and contributions of Comrade Tran Phuong, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have decided to organize the funeral of Comrade Tran Phuong with State funeral rites.

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF COMRADE TRAN PHUONG
Former Central Committee Member, former Vice Chairman
Council of Ministers (now the Deputy Prime Minister)

Comrade Tran Phuong (birth name: Vu Van Dung), born on November 1, 1927; birthplace: Xuan Duc Commune, My Hao District, Hung Yen Province (now Duong Hao Ward, Hung Yen Province); residing at house number 28, Tang Bat Ho Street, Hai Ba Trung Ward, Hanoi City; joined the revolution in September 1943; joined the Party in September 1945.

WORK EXPERIENCE

September 1943 - December 1944: He participated in the revolution, mobilizing students at Buoi School.

January 1945 - April 1945: He served as a member of the Hanoi Volunteer Propaganda Team.

May 1945 - March 1949: He served as a Viet Minh cadre, District Party Committee member, District Party Secretary; Provincial Party Committee member, Deputy Secretary of Hung Yen Provincial Party Committee.

April 1949 - January 1951: He served as Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of Military Region 3, concurrently Director of the Information Department of Military Region 3, Editor-in-Chief of the Cuu Quoc Newspaper of Military Region 3; and Head of the Editorial Board of the Party Committee's Internal Newsletter of Military Region 3.

February 1951 - June 1953: He served as a Standing Committee member and Deputy Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee, concurrently holding the position of Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong Resistance Administrative Committee.

July 1953 - July 1954: He served as Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Left Bank Regional Party Committee, concurrently Director of the Department of Arts and Culture, and Editor-in-Chief of the Left Bank National Salvation Newspaper.

July 1954 - August 1956: He studied at the Marxist-Leninist Academy in Beijing, China.

August 1956 - November 1957: He served as Deputy Director of the Voice of Vietnam Radio Station and participated in the Hung Yen Provincial Party Committee in the land reform and correction work.

November 1957 - March 1959: He served as Head of the Economics Department and Member of the Board of Directors at the Central Nguyen Ai Quoc School.

March 1959 - October 1976: He served as Deputy Director and then Director of the Institute of Economics, and Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Social Sciences (now the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences).

October 1976: He became Deputy Minister of Internal Trade (now the Ministry of Industry and Trade).

At the Fourth National Congress of the Party (December 1976), Comrade was elected as an alternate member of the Central Committee of the Party.

January 1980: He served as Minister of Internal Trade (now the Ministry of Industry and Trade) and Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Committee. He was awarded the academic title of Professor of Economics.

January 1981: He was appointed Minister of Internal Trade (now the Ministry of Industry and Trade).

At the 5th National Congress of the Party (March 1982), Comrade was elected to the Central Committee of the Party and assigned to the position of Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now Deputy Prime Minister).

February 1986: He ceased to hold the position of Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers and was transferred to the position of Vice Chairman of the State Planning Committee, concurrently serving as Director of the Institute for Long-Term Planning and Production Force Allocation.

August 1, 1992: Comrade was granted retirement by the Party and the State, receiving benefits and policies as prescribed.

He was an alternate member of the Central Committee of the Party in the 4th term, and a member of the Central Committee in the 5th term; former: Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now Deputy Prime Minister), Minister of Internal Trade (now the Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vice Chairman of the State Planning Committee and concurrently Director of the Institute for Long-Term Planning and Distribution of Production Forces. Member of the National Assembly in the 7th term.

Due to his many outstanding contributions and achievements to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, Comrade was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order; the 80-Year Party Membership Badge and many other prestigious orders, medals, and awards both domestically and internationally.

FUNERAL OF COMRADE TRAN PHUONG

The Central Party Secretariat has decided to establish a State Funeral Committee consisting of 27 members, chaired by Comrade Nguyen Hoa Binh, Member of the Political Bureau and Standing Deputy Prime Minister of the Government.

Comrade Tran Phuong's remains are laid in state at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi.

The memorial service will be held from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM on October 24, 2025 (corresponding to the 4th day of the 9th lunar month of the Year of the Snake).

The funeral will take place at 1:00 PM on the same day at the family cemetery in Xuan Duc commune, My Hao district, Hung Yen province (now Duong Hao ward, Hung Yen province).
