Funeral held for former Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers Tran Phuong with state-level ceremony

Held the funeral of comrade Tran Phuong, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now Deputy Prime Minister), with State funeral ceremony.

The Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam , the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the family deeply regret to inform:

Comrade Tran Phuong (birth name: Vu Van Dung), born on November 1, 1927; hometown: Xuan Duc Commune, My Hao District, Hung Yen Province (now Duong Hao Ward, Hung Yen Province); permanent residence at No. 28, Tang Bat Ho Street, Hai Ba Trung Ward, Hanoi City; participated in revolutionary activities in September 1943; joined the Party in September 1945. He was a former alternate member of the Party Central Committee, term IV; member of the Party Central Committee, term V; Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now Deputy Prime Minister); Minister of Domestic Trade (now Ministry of Industry and Trade ); Vice Chairman of the State Planning Committee; delegate of the National Assembly, term VII.

After a period of serious illness, despite the devoted care and treatment of the Party, the State, the group of professors, doctors and family, due to old age and poor health, he passed away at 6:02 a.m. on October 18, 2025 (August 27, At Ty year) at the 108 Central Military Hospital, at the age of 98.

During 80 years of revolutionary activities, Comrade had many achievements contributing to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. He was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Medal by the Party and State; the 80-year Party membership badge and many other noble medals and orders.

To express condolences and acknowledge the achievements and contributions of comrade Tran Phuong, the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front decided to hold the funeral of comrade Tran Phuong with the State funeral ceremony.

Comrade Tran Phuong (birth name: Vu Van Dung), born on November 1, 1927; hometown: Xuan Duc Commune, My Hao District, Hung Yen Province (now Duong Hao Ward, Hung Yen Province); permanent residence at No. 28, Tang Bat Ho Street, Hai Ba Trung Ward, Hanoi City; participated in the September 1943 Revolution; joined the Party in September 1945

WORKING HISTORY

September 1943 - December 1944: He participated in the revolution, mobilizing students of Buoi school.

January 1945 - April 1945: He worked as a volunteer propaganda team member in Hanoi.

May 1945 - March 1949: He was a Viet Minh cadre, District Party Committee member, District Party Committee Secretary; Provincial Party Committee member, Deputy Secretary of Hung Yen Provincial Party Committee.

April 1949 - January 1951: He worked as Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of Inter-Zone 3, concurrently Director of the Information Department of Inter-Zone 3, Editor-in-Chief of the Inter-Zone 3 National Salvation Newspaper; Editor-in-Chief of the Inter-Zone 3 Party Committee's Internal Bulletin.

February 1951 - June 1953: He was a member of the Standing Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee, and Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong Administrative Resistance Committee.

July 1953 - July 1954: He worked as Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Left Bank Party Committee, concurrently Director of the Department of Propaganda and Arts, and Editor-in-Chief of the Left Bank National Salvation Newspaper.

July 1954 - August 1956: He studied at the Marxist-Leninist Institute in Beijing, China.

August 1956 - November 1957: He worked as Deputy Director of Voice of Vietnam Radio Station, participated in Hung Yen Provincial Party Committee to work on land reform.

November 1957 - March 1959: He was Head of the Economics Department, Member of the Board of Directors, Nguyen Ai Quoc Central School.

March 1959 - October 1976: He was Deputy Director and then Director of the Institute of Economics, Vice Chairman of the Social Sciences Committee (now the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences).

October 1976: He became Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade (now the Ministry of Industry and Trade).

At the 4th National Congress of the Party (December 1976), he was elected as an alternate member of the Party Central Committee.

January 1980: He became Minister of Domestic Trade (now Ministry of Industry and Trade), Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Commission. He was awarded the scientific title of Professor of Economics.

January 1981: He was appointed Minister of Domestic Trade (now the Ministry of Industry and Trade).

At the 5th National Congress of the Party (March 1982), he was elected to the Party Central Committee and assigned as Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now Deputy Prime Minister).

February 1986: He resigned from the position of Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers and was transferred to the position of Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Committee and Director of the Institute for Long-term Planning and Production Force Allocation.

August 1, 1992: He was retired by the Party and State, enjoying the regime and policies according to regulations.

He is an alternate member of the Party Central Committee, term IV, member of the Party Central Committee, term V; former Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now Deputy Prime Minister), Minister of Domestic Trade (now Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vice Chairman of the State Planning Committee and Director of the Institute for Long-term Planning and Production Force Allocation. Delegate of the National Assembly, term VII.

Due to his many contributions and outstanding achievements to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, he was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Medal by the Party and the State; the 80-year Party membership badge and many other noble domestic and international medals, awards and prizes.

NOTIFICATION
FUNERAL OF COMRADE TRAN PHUONG

The Party Central Committee Secretariat has decided to establish a State Funeral Committee consisting of 27 comrades, headed by Comrade Nguyen Hoa Binh, Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister.

Comrade Tran Phuong's coffin lies at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi city.

The funeral will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on October 24, 2025 (September 4, At Ty year).

Memorial service from 12:00 on October 24, 2025

The funeral will take place from 1:00 p.m. the same day at the hometown cemetery, Xuan Duc commune, My Hao district, Hung Yen province (now Duong Hao ward, Hung Yen province).
