The seminar was held within the framework of the exhibition of national achievements "80 years of the Journey of Independence - Freedom - Happiness" at the National Exhibition Center (Dong Anh, Hanoi ). The speakers shared many profound perspectives on this issue.
Looking back on the past development journey, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Bao, General Director of VTC Multimedia Corporation, said: Cultural factors in Vietnamese games are still quite vague.
"Previously, Vietnamese cultural elements in games were not exploited much, we mainly stopped at the basic Vietnamization of foreign products. However, with the increasingly developed domestic production capacity, it is time for us to systematically bring Vietnamese culture into games, thereby creating unique values, forming Vietnamese IPs and spreading Vietnamese cultural heritage to the world ," Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Bao shared.

Since 2016, the Government has issued the Strategy for the Development of Vietnam's Cultural Industry to 2020, with a vision to 2030, in which games are identified as an important sector. By 2024, the revenue of the Vietnamese gaming industry will reach VND13,663 billion (USD525 million), an increase of 8.8% compared to 2023, with a growth rate 2.5 times higher than the world average. Vietnam has risen to the global Top 5, with revenue from the international market reaching more than VND2,000 billion.
These figures confirm that Vietnam is becoming a model in the region, attracting cooperation from many international "giants", gradually forming a creative ecosystem instead of just a consumer market.
From the perspective of copyright management, Mr. Le Minh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Copyright Department, shared: "We all clearly see the potential and advantages of Vietnam in developing the game market, because the thinking and creativity of Vietnamese people in general, and young people in particular, are very fond of experiencing a variety of game products."

According to him, Vietnam possesses a rich cultural treasure to be able to develop this field, aiming for the game to become one of the key cultural industries. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is also submitting to the Government a strategy for developing the cultural industry for the period 2030 - 2045, in which entertainment game products continue to be identified as the focus.
From an artist's perspective, People's Artist Xuan Bac, Director of the Department of Performing Arts, believes that games have a special appeal and are an ideal environment to preserve and spread cultural values.
"Video games, or what we often call games, have their own irresistible appeal. Up to now, fighting games often provide knowledge about weapons and tactics; while entertainment games incorporate beautiful scenery and customs. Even in the design of character costumes, creators are very careful, incorporating cultural imprints and national identity," Director Xuan Bac shared.

According to Director Xuan Bac, the above factors create richness in the player's experience. He believes that if cultural, ethnic, traditional values are harmoniously combined with modernity, the game will stimulate curiosity and bring a deeper experience. This has been clearly demonstrated through many successful game products in the world.
During the development process, many Vietnamese game titles have left their mark in the collective memory and reflected contemporary cultural life. Audition and Au Mobile, born nearly two decades ago, have become digital cultural phenomena of Vietnamese youth.
The vibrant dance moves, catchy melodies and diverse fashion styles not only bring entertainment, but also create a creative space where young people affirm their personalities. From there, friendships and loves that started on the "virtual dance floor" continue to spread in real life, forming a close-knit community.

In a different vein, Football Pro recreates the passion of the king of sports – where technique, strategy and team spirit converge. The game not only brings a dramatic experience, but also awakens the love of football – which is a part of cultural life from village stadiums to international tournaments.
Placed side by side, these three games reflect two aspects of Vietnamese culture: one is music, fashion, and dance – symbols of individual creative freedom; the other is football – a symbol of solidarity, collective pride, and community spirit. However, to further exploit the cultural and historical values in the game requires systematic and serious research.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Bao emphasized: "To make good games, we must cooperate with artisans, scientists, schools, research institutes, etc. to conduct scientific and systematic research. If we do it superficially, we can lose the original value and fade the Vietnamese cultural identity."

That also means that each game product that exploits cultural elements is not just entertainment, but also a responsible creative work.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Le Minh Tuan affirmed: "The exploitation of culture requires investment and thorough research to properly express traditional values. Without deviation, because that is the decisive factor to attract and spread widely in the community".
From a business perspective, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Bao further analyzed: for game developers to truly make a breakthrough, the game industry needs to be properly recognized as an important cultural industry. It is necessary to change the way of management, instead of tightening, it is necessary to manage for oriented development. Businesses also need to be supported by mechanisms and policies, especially capital and taxes to be competitive globally.
When culture is placed at the target position, and games become an important bridge, it is inevitable that units sit down, evaluate the reality and join hands to create a sustainable ecosystem. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Bao pointed out that games have the ability to connect with many different cultural fields, from history, art to cuisine.

From another perspective, approaching from the performing arts, People's Artist Xuan Bac analyzed: games can completely open up a new space for theater, fashion and art in general. Specifically, if we approach games in a civilized, complete and scientific way, we will see that games are contributing in many ways to social development, from training skills, providing knowledge, to promoting culture.
A game ecosystem needs to be built systematically, not just limited to the online world but needs to spread to life. For example, costumes and fashion in games are very beautiful, eye-catching... can be performed on stage. If we combine games, culture and education well, turning games into tools to convey history and tradition, then that will be a direction that brings long-term effectiveness.
The support of management agencies is a necessary condition for this process. Mr. Le Minh Tuan shared: "As a state management agency for copyright, related rights and cultural industry development, we are always ready to accompany, support and guide businesses to comply with legal regulations, while promoting communication and product promotion. We hope that organizations, individuals and businesses will boldly connect to coordinate and accompany, promoting the development of the ecosystem".

The common point shared by the speakers is the belief that Vietnamese gamers do not only stop at the entertainment role, but can also become "cultural ambassadors" in the digital world. When bringing culture into the game, the players themselves will feel proud of their origin and origin. Through passion, each gamer can completely become a cultural ambassador, spreading Vietnamese values in the digital world.
Director of the Department of Performing Arts Xuan Bac affirmed: Vietnamese identity has been forged over thousands of years of history. Through many hardships, natural disasters, enemies, through the spirit of "determination to fight, determination to win" to protect the country, then returning to normal life with diligence and mutual support. It is this depth that creates a huge treasure from legends, relics, famous landscapes to national heroes, all of which can become rich material for Vietnamese games.
Therefore, bringing culture into the game requires a systematic roadmap, choosing the characteristics of each region to be suitable and attractive. When done well, the game is not only a means of entertainment but also helps players understand more about history, culture, and nurture the national spirit.
People's Artist Xuan Bac humorously shared: "If there is a game that is both good and rich in Vietnamese cultural identity, I will definitely create an account to play it diligently, both for entertainment, learning, and refreshing my energy. And I will invite many more people to play together."
From the perspective of experts and artists, it can be seen that when created with passion and responsibility, games are games, but they are also a bridge to nurture and spread Vietnamese identity. That journey requires the cooperation of the State, businesses, artists and the gaming community, so that each Vietnamese game carries the national soul and each player truly becomes a cultural ambassador in the digital age.
