
Monitoring data shows that at 9:00 AM on September 19th, the upstream water level of Thac Ba Lake was at an elevation of 57.19m; the inflow to the lake was 432m3/s, and the outflow was 738m3/s.
In accordance with the regulations on the operation of interconnected reservoirs in the Red River basin as stipulated in Decision No. 740/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister, on the afternoon of September 19th, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development issued a directive ordering Thac Ba Hydropower Joint Stock Company to operate the floodgates.
Accordingly, from 2 PM on September 19th, Thac Ba Hydropower Joint Stock Company closed two surface spillway gates. Thus, all spillway gates of this company were closed after 2 PM today.
With Thac Ba Hydropower Joint Stock Company closing the last two spillway gates, there are now no hydropower reservoirs releasing floodwaters in the Red River basin. The water level downstream of the Red River will continue to fluctuate in the coming hours.
Later that same day, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development sent a document to four provinces and cities: Yen Bai , Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Hanoi, requesting them to focus on implementing solutions to ensure safety in the downstream areas when operating the Thac Ba hydroelectric reservoir. The focus is on ensuring the safety of economic activities on and along the river.
