General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong expressed confidence that the relationship between the two countries still has much potential for strong development, and agreed with the cooperation proposals put forward by the Prime Minister.

On the afternoon of July 20, at the Party Central Committee headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received Prime Minister of the Federation of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the high-level Malaysian delegation on their official visit to Vietnam, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1973-2023).

Recalling fond memories from his previous visit to Malaysia, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highly appreciated the strong and comprehensive development of cooperation between the two countries.

The General Secretary emphasized that Vietnam and Malaysia are two close neighbors in Southeast Asia, both members of ASEAN, sharing views on many important international issues, having many similarities in culture and history, and many Vietnamese people are living and studying in Malaysia.

The General Secretary thanked the Prime Minister for his affection towards President Ho Chi Minh and for his kind remarks about the country, its people, Vietnam's all-round development, as well as the important achievements in national governance and the fight against corruption and negative phenomena.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong discussed the great and comprehensive achievements that Vietnam has strived to attain, building the foundation, potential, position, and international prestige it enjoys today.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed the independent, self-reliant, multilateral, and diversified foreign policy, always attaching importance to relations with neighboring countries.

The General Secretary shared with the Prime Minister the significance and importance of the systematic and effective fight against corruption, negative practices, and waste, which has received the support and trust of the Vietnamese people. Vietnam has learned much from Malaysia's development experiences and highly appreciates the achievements Malaysia has made in recent years under the leadership of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's government.

Highly appreciating the positive results of the talks between the two Prime Ministers, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong expressed confidence that the relationship between the two countries still has much potential for strong development, and agreed with the cooperation proposals put forward by the Prime Minister, including the exchange of experiences on national leadership, socio-economic development management, and the fight against corruption, negative phenomena, and waste.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm welcome from Vietnam and for the General Secretary taking the time to receive the delegation. The Prime Minister expressed his special appreciation for Vietnam's history of struggle and his affection and admiration for President Ho Chi Minh.

Expressing his profound impressions of Vietnam's development and tremendous transformation, the Malaysian Prime Minister highly appreciated the leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the exceptional contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong personally.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim informed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong about the results of his talks with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, emphasizing his desire to promote comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, including party relations, sharing leadership and development experiences, economic cooperation, defense, security, and in new areas such as the digital economy, cybersecurity, and responding to non-traditional security challenges.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim shared his views with the General Secretary on combating corruption and malpractice in Malaysia and expressed his desire for both sides to promote cooperation and share experiences in this field.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized his pleasure and appreciation for the meeting with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his belief that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's visit marks a new milestone, contributing to the further development of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
