General Secretary To Lam meets with Embassy staff and the Vietnamese community in the UK

Within the framework of the official visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, on the evening of October 28 (local time), in London, General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, met with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK and a large number of overseas Vietnamese living, working and studying in the UK.

On behalf of the community, Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Do Minh Hung expressed his joy and emotion when General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with the comrades in the delegation, immediately after arriving in London, met with overseas Vietnamese, expressing the affection and care of the Party and State for overseas Vietnamese, affirming the consistent policy of firmly consolidating the great national unity bloc, strongly promoting the strength of the entire people in the cause of building and developing the country.

Ambassador Do Minh Hung said that the Vietnamese community in the UK has more than 100,000 people, actively integrating into the host society. The vast majority of people have a patriotic spirit, strive to maintain traditional identity, strengthen community solidarity, "mutual love", always turn to the Fatherland with specific actions and deeds. The Vietnamese business community in the UK is growing stronger and is an important bridge for trade, scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries. In recent times, the Embassy has made many efforts in implementing community work in the area, which has been recognized and trusted by the community.

In the warm atmosphere of the meeting, representatives of the Vietnamese Association, the Vietnamese Intellectuals Association, and the Vietnamese Students Association in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland expressed their emotion at the visit and meeting of the General Secretary and his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, which was a source of encouragement for the Vietnamese community. Far from the homeland, the Vietnamese community still maintains its own identity with qualities such as diligence, studiousness, loyalty, responsibility, a spirit of overcoming difficulties, a strong will to rise up; and a desire to contribute to the development of the homeland and the country.

Listening to the thoughts and aspirations of the people, General Secretary To Lam was pleased to see that our overseas Vietnamese always turn to their homeland, update the country's situation, and pay attention to the new policies of the Party and State. The General Secretary said that this visit of the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation took place in the context of the very good development of Vietnam-UK relations. That result created favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to continue to integrate and develop better in the UK.

Congratulating the achievements of the Vietnamese community in the UK, the General Secretary acknowledged that the Vietnamese community with nearly 100,000 people is one of the largest communities in Europe; the people have made many efforts, united, helped each other to stabilize their lives, integrate into the host society, and have many diverse activities to honor and preserve the cultural identity and Vietnamese language and contribute to strengthening the cooperative and friendly relations between the two countries.

The General Secretary emphasized that our compatriots abroad are an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation. The Party and State always pay attention to the care of the Vietnamese community by expanding support policies and amending laws to create conditions for compatriots abroad to invest, study, research, start businesses, transfer knowledge, and participate in cultural and people-to-people diplomacy activities. In the coming time, there should be special preferential policies to attract leading experts in science, technology, innovation, etc. to return home to work.

The General Secretary informed about some highlights of the domestic situation and affirmed his belief that with the tradition of patriotism, the spirit of self-reliance, intelligence and bravery, the Vietnamese community abroad in general and in the UK in particular will continue to join hands and unite with the Party, State and people at home to overcome all difficulties and challenges, turn aspirations into actions, turn potential into practical strength, to together bring our country into a new era of development.

Praising the achievements of the Embassy's staff, the General Secretary acknowledged that the Embassy has successfully completed its tasks of promoting diplomatic relations, boosting economic diplomacy, promoting initial technological diplomacy, actively implementing cultural diplomacy activities, caring for the Vietnamese community in the UK, and ensuring citizen protection. In the coming time, each diplomatic officer needs to always be exemplary, professional, constantly practicing and improving diplomatic skills to meet the requirements and tasks in the new era. The Embassy needs to continue to do a good job of citizen protection, being a reliable support for the Vietnamese community abroad.

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam and his wife presented the Embassy and the Vietnamese community in the UK with gifts of homeland flavor; presented Vietnamese books to children and Vietnamese language classes of the community so that children could better understand the heroic history and traditional cultural beauty of the nation.
