The structure of the 10th grade Vietnamese language exam is as follows:
- The reading comprehension section will use materials outside of the textbook, including literary texts and one of two types: argumentative texts or informational texts. The total length of the materials in the exam should not exceed 1,300 words.
The written section includes:
First, write a paragraph (approximately 200 words) that meets one of the following two requirements:
Write a paragraph expressing your feelings about a poem or a stanza of a poem.
Write a paragraph analyzing the thematic content, the distinctive artistic features of the work, and its aesthetic effect.
Secondly, write an essay that meets one of the following two requirements:
Write an argumentative essay on a social issue, clearly presenting the issue and the writer's opinion (agreement or disagreement) on that issue; provide convincing reasoning and evidence.
Write an argumentative essay on a problem that needs solving; present feasible and persuasive solutions.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced that the structure of the literature exam will have two parts:
Part 1 (5.0 points): Reading comprehension of literary texts and writing a paragraph.
Question 1 (3.0 points): Reading Comprehension.
Question 2 (2.0 points): Write a paragraph.
Part 2 (5.0 points): Reading comprehension of argumentative or informational texts and writing a social commentary essay.
Question 1 (1.0 point): Reading Comprehension.
Question 2 (4.0 points): Write a social commentary essay.
The assessment is based on the required reading comprehension and writing skills outlined in the 2018 Vietnamese language curriculum for lower secondary schools, primarily grades 8 and 9. The exam is designed to integrate the assessment of reading comprehension and writing skills, with the content of the writing section relating to the texts in the reading comprehension section.
Mathematics exam
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the mathematics exam for 10th grade entrance will cover the following areas of knowledge: geometry and measurement; numbers and algebra; statistics and probability.
The test aims to assess mathematical abilities: mathematical thinking and reasoning; mathematical problem-solving; and mathematical modeling.
The exam will require students to apply their learned knowledge to solve real-world problems. It encourages self-study and creativity, avoiding rote learning and memorization.
The assessment content aims to help students identify some of the necessary knowledge and skills for entering high school.
The structure of the math exam is as follows :
Exercise 1. (1.5 points) Given the function y = ax2
a) Draw the graph (P) of the above function.
b) Find the points on (P) that satisfy the given condition.
Exercise 2. (1 point) Given the quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0
a) Find the conditions under which the equation has solutions.
b) Using Vieta's formulas, calculate the value of the expression related to the roots.
Exercise 3. (1.5 points) Practical math problems related to probability and statistics.
Exercise 4. (1 point)
a) Write an expression A that represents a certain quantity x in the real-world problem.
b) Find the value of x for which A satisfies a certain condition.
Lesson 5. (1 point) Practical math problems related to geometry:
Perimeter, area of a triangle, quadrilateral, arc length, circumference of a circle, area of a circle, sector, segment, annulus...
Surface area, total surface area, volume of geometric shapes in reality...
Lesson 6. (1 point) Practical math problems involving equations, inequalities, and systems of linear equations with two variables.
Lesson 7. (3 points) Plane geometry problem consisting of 3 questions.
a) Prove that the four points lie on a circle, and that the elements are parallel, perpendicular, equal, etc.
b) Prove the relationships, the elements are equal, collinear, concurrent, etc.
c) Calculate length, perimeter, area, angle measure, etc.
The assessment criteria for the mathematics exam are based on the learning objectives outlined in the 2018 Secondary School Mathematics Curriculum, primarily for grades 8 and 9.
English subject:
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training stated that the English exam aims to assess language proficiency not only based on students' rote memorization of grammar and vocabulary, but also on their ability to understand and apply language knowledge in appropriate contexts, especially real-life situations.
Specifically :
The phonetics section includes:
- How to pronounce basic vowels and consonants.
- How to place the stress correctly on words.
The vocabulary and grammar sections will include a diverse range of vocabulary types and word meanings, in accordance with the curriculum framework.
The communication and real-life situational application section includes:
- The ability to understand and respond to simple situations in real-world language.
Reading comprehension
- Read texts that are 180-200 words long and find the information.
- Read and fill in the blanks in a text of 80-100 words.
The writing section will include:
- Write words in the correct form to complete sentences with appropriate meaning.
- Write a simple sentence based on the given information.
- Write sentences using your grammatical structure and word combination skills.
The 10th grade entrance exam in English consists of 4 parts:
Part 1 (1.0 point): Phonetics
From sentence 1 to sentence 4
Part 2 (3.0 points): Vocabulary, grammar, communication
From question 5 to question 16
Part 3 (3.0 points): Reading Comprehension
- Read and fill in the blanks: From sentence 17 to sentence 22
- Reading comprehension and answering questions: Questions 23 to 28
Part 4 (4.0 points): Writing
- Write the correct form of the word: From sentence 29 to sentence 34
- Write the appropriate phrase based on the given information: Sentences 35, 36 - Write sentences: From sentence 37 to sentence 40.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training also noted that this year's English exam will include two new questions on writing appropriate phrases based on given information. This question tests the ability to read dictionary annotations to find linguistic information and apply knowledge.
