Organized by the Ministry of Health , this event marks a significant milestone in health communication, honoring the tireless contributions of journalists in Vietnam's 35-year journey of persistently combating the pandemic of the century.
Notably, this year's journalism awards recognize a significant shift in media thinking. Instead of the fear-mongering messages of 10-20 years ago, today's journalism offers a fresh, more scientific , positive, and humane perspective. Relevant concepts have been conveyed vividly and understandably by journalists, significantly contributing to changing societal perceptions.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong affirmed that, after 35 years, under the wise leadership of the Party, the decisive direction of the Government, and the involvement of the entire political system, the Vietnamese health sector has made a spectacular comeback, successfully controlling the epidemic and becoming a shining example in the world.
Vietnam is currently one of the four countries (along with the UK, Germany, and Switzerland) with the best quality HIV/AIDS treatment in the world. In particular, the percentage of people with HIV receiving ARV treatment who have a viral load below the suppression threshold is over 96%.
According to the Ministry of Health's leadership, this achievement is due not only to the medical staff and healthcare sector directly involved in caring for and treating HIV/AIDS patients, but also to the close collaboration of journalists and reporters on the ideological front, helping to change society's perception of HIV/AIDS.
