Trinh Thu Vinh completes a "double gold" for Vietnamese shooting.

After winning the gold medal in the women's 10m air pistol team event with her teammates Nguyen Thuy Trang and Trieu Thi Hoa Hong, Trinh Thu Vinh advanced to the final of the women's 10m individual pistol event.

This is Thu Vinh's specialty and it previously took her to the 2024 Paris Olympics after ranking 5th in the world in 2023, and then to win the gold medal at the 2024 Asian Championships.

VHO - After four days of intense competition and many changes in the overall medal standings, the 33rd SEA Games entered December 14th – a day considered pivotal for the Vietnamese sports delegation in the race for medals. Besides the "traditional" sports like swimming and athletics continuing to compete, the focus of December 14th shifted to shooting and archery, where Vietnam placed high hopes on athletes who have proven their class at the continental and Olympic levels.

Despite her impressive achievements, a SEA Games individual gold medal remains a missing title in Thu Vinh's collection. At the 31st SEA Games, she only won a bronze medal in the individual event and a silver medal in the team event.

Therefore, Thu Vinh was very determined in each of her shots, aiming to win her first individual gold medal at the SEA Games.

In the final, Thu Vinh performed impressively, consistently leading. Despite facing pressure from chasing competitors from Myanmar, Indonesia, and Malaysia, as well as her teammate Nguyen Thuy Trang, the 2000-born shooter maintained high concentration to finish her rounds in first place.

Accordingly, Thu Vinh brilliantly won the gold medal with 242.7 points, breaking the SEA Games record in the women's 10m pistol individual event.

This is Thu Vinh's second consecutive gold medal, simultaneously breaking two SEA Games records. This outstanding performance once again affirms the class of the female shooter who participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics, leaving a strong mark on the regional arena.

Sharing her thoughts after winning the individual gold medal, Thu Vinh said: “Today was a lucky day for me. It was also a stressful day, but I was fortunate enough to win two gold medals.”

"I wasn't thinking about the SEA Games record. I was just lucky to break it. While shooting, I only remembered the shooting method I had set for myself, not about the record."

The 25-year-old shooter said she felt some pressure from people's expectations, which led to her not performing as well as she hoped in the standardized test, but she has since overcome that.

Thu Vinh expressed that, based on her performance at the SEA Games 33, she will strive even harder for the ASIAD and the Olympics.

Thus, with Thu Vinh and her teammates' "double gold" win, Vietnamese shooting has secured 3 gold medals at the SEA Games 33, following the achievements of Le Thi Mong Tuyen and Nguyen Tam Quang in the 10m air rifle mixed event.
