This is the 7th Report published in a series of reports published annually to summarize major economic and trade issues of the past year, emphasizing outstanding issues of the year, and proposing related policies.
At the announcement ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Ha Van Su, Vice Principal of the University, said that the theme of this year's report, "AI Technology in the Digital Age", not only reflects a global technology trend, but is also closely linked to the structural changes taking place in the Vietnamese economy.

In the context of the world experiencing many geopolitical and economic fluctuations, countries are making efforts to reshape the growth model based on technological innovation, productivity improvement and comprehensive digital transformation. Vietnam has entered a period of extensive economic restructuring, associated with the process of institutional reform, streamlining the public administration apparatus, and accelerating the pace of transformation in both the public and private sectors.
In that context, artificial intelligence (AI) is not only a technological tool, but also a foundation for creating national competitive advantages, promoting innovation capacity and opening up new forms of growth for the economy.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Ha Van Su, the annual report on Vietnam's Economy and Trade is researched based on selected data and evidence from organizations providing official and reliable data; researching short-term issues but in the medium and long-term vision with a unified structure including: The world and Vietnam economic context; Important aspects reflecting the annual macroeconomic and trade situation.

In particular, the theme for 2024 is “ AI Technology in the Digital Age ” – one of the fields that is reshaping the structure of production, distribution, consumption and decision-making on a global scale. With the emergence of new generation AI models such as GPT-4.0, Gemini or AI platforms integrated in the production value chain, artificial intelligence is no longer a future trend but has become an economic-technological infrastructure. In Vietnam, AI can play the role of the third driving force for economic growth, besides exports and investment. Integrating AI into production, corporate governance, public service provision and improving labor productivity is the key for Vietnam to shorten the development gap and enhance national competitiveness.
However, Associate Professor Ha Van Su said that Vietnam's effective use of AI technology still faces many barriers such as a shortage of specialized human resources, asynchronous data, and an incomplete legal framework.

With an overall picture and forecasts, along with policy implications for 2025 and the following years, the Vietnam Economic and Trade Annual Report with the in-depth topic "AI Technology in the Digital Age" brings many scientific and practical values, which are useful references for managers, policy makers, researchers as well as for all those interested in macroeconomic issues in Vietnam.
