TP - Many schools in Da Nang are compared by students and parents to be as beautiful as hotels and as "chill" as coffee shops because of their eye-catching, modern architecture and many green areas. Few people know that these schools originated from the ideas and suggestions of teachers so that the "second home" is truly a place where students want to come every day.

Eye-catching school, lots of green space

Tay Son Secondary School (Nui Thanh Street) is a school that everyone passing by must look up at because of its newness and spaciousness with a new building with modern architecture. Mr. Tran Ngoc Ut, the school's principal, said: "Previously, the school had almost no highlights with the buildings arranged in a U shape surrounding the school yard. Since the new building was built, the school looks brighter, more luxurious, and more beautiful, and everyone passing by is amazed."

This new building is 3 stories high, lying horizontally in the middle of the yard with the main color being gray and white. The front of the building has a system of horizontal sunshade slats extending from the 3rd floor down, interspersed with flower beds and green trees. In the yard, the school also planted Dalbergia and Mai trees along with many other types of flowers blooming all year round.

Not far away, Tran Hung Dao Secondary School, which is over 50 years old, suddenly became younger with a new corridor connecting two blocks of buildings. Ms. Vo Minh Phuong, the school's principal, said that before this corridor existed, teachers and students from the 4th floor of this building wanted to go to the other building, so they had to go down the stairs, cross the yard, and then climb the stairs again; on sunny or rainy days, it was really inconvenient.

On the day the project was completed, the school looked like it had a new coat with a pure white corridor across the front facade covered with green climbing plants. This walkway is also a place for teachers and students to play and “check-in” after class. Below the school stairs is a library that students say is as “chill” as a coffee shop because the bookcases and tables and chairs are all modernly designed.

Gia Linh, class 6/7, expressed: “I really like the new space of the school, every day I go to school I see the school is very beautiful. As for the library, I often go there because I can sit and read books at the table, the chairs can be cushioned and lean against the cabinet, against the wall like in a coffee shop or bookstore. When I am tired after physical education, I also choose the library to rest and relax.”

Traveling around Da Nang, it is not difficult to see eye-catching schools, such as Ly Tu Trong Primary School, Trung Vuong Secondary School… with beautiful architecture. These schools focus on design from gates, stairs, roofs, skylights to rooms.

Teachers participate in design ideas

Few people know that these “superb” schools all originated from real needs and contributed ideas from the teachers in the school. Ms. Vo Minh Phuong, Principal of Tran Hung Dao Secondary School, recalls that the teachers selected and bought the trees, hired people to take care of them, and when the new corridor was completed, the trees were brought in to “assemble”.

The library room was designed and built according to the Vice Principal's idea of an open, comfortable, and intimate space, not as rigid as the old library where you had to have a card to enter, have staff lend books, and then sit quietly on chairs to read. "Here, students can take the books they need and sit where they want. When subject lessons need to change space to make them more interesting or need more materials, teachers take the classes to the library to study. In particular, this "chill like a coffee shop" library is open all summer. The students really enjoy it," said Ms. Phuong.

Teachers at Tay Son Secondary School also participated in the initial design. Principal Tran Ngoc Ut said the school proposed a modern, youthful facade design that definitely required trees. Since the school got its new look, the number of students has increased by several hundred each year.

Mr. Van Thanh, whose child studies at Ly Tu Trong Primary School (Hai Chau District), said his child often brags to his friends that he studies in the most beautiful school in the city and loves going to school every day.
