Over the past two days, a list of social fundraising activities for the 2025-2026 school year at Nguyen Du Secondary School (Thanh Sen Ward, Ha Tinh Province) with a total estimated budget of over 800 million VND has been circulating on Facebook.
According to the budget, the school plans to raise funds for six items, including: student desks and chairs, televisions, decorating 15 new classrooms, exercise equipment for the multi-purpose hall, planting shade trees according to the new schoolyard plan, and repairing and renovating flowerbeds and teaching equipment.

Notably, this item includes planting 10 sandalwood trees worth 130 million VND (13 million VND/tree) and repairing and renovating flower beds worth 50 million VND.
Some argue that this expense is not really necessary and could easily put pressure on parents, especially given that the locality has just been affected by two major storms (storms No. 5 and No. 10).
On October 24th, Mr. Le Ngoc Anh, Principal of Nguyen Du Secondary School, stated that the aforementioned budget estimate is part of the plan to mobilize social resources for education in the 2025-2026 school year. The goal is to mobilize the joint efforts of parents, businesses, and the community to supplement facilities for teaching and learning.
"The plan was published on the school's website in September and sent to parents of all classes. All fundraising is voluntary; parents are not obligated to contribute," Mr. Ngoc Anh affirmed.
Nguyen Du Secondary School has 32 classes with 1,408 students. Over the years, the government has invested more than 54 billion VND in building two three-story school buildings, a multi-purpose hall, a schoolyard, landscaping, and basic equipment.
However, this school year, the school has added 3 new classes with 135 students, while many desks, chairs, and equipment are damaged. Therefore, the school needs to mobilize additional resources from the community to meet the learning needs.

Regarding the 130 million VND project to plant sandalwood trees, Mr. Ngoc Anh stated that all the trees were sponsored by a business, and the school only included them in the budget to ensure transparency in fundraising activities.
According to the principal, the sandalwood tree was chosen because it suits the landscape, provides good shade, and many schools in the area have planted this type of tree and found it to be very beautiful.
According to the leaders of Nguyen Du Secondary School, for items such as televisions and smart sliding boards, the school is currently only in the stage of surveying and appraising prices from several suppliers.
The implementation will strictly adhere to regulations; procurements exceeding 100 million VND must be conducted through a bidding process, ensuring transparency and proper procedures.
Mr. Le Ngoc Anh further affirmed that the school is currently in the fundraising phase, and organizations and individuals can support it with cash or in-kind donations, depending on their means.
For parents and students, the school only disseminates information on a voluntary basis, without coercion. The entire fundraising plan was approved by the People's Committee of Thanh Sen Ward before being made public.
