Three decades of unwavering commitment to a healthier Vietnam.

For three decades of partnership with Vietnam, Abbott has consistently been a pioneer in introducing advanced technologies, contributing to improving the quality of healthcare for the people.

Last June, Abbott applied virtual reality technology to a series of blood donation events in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to raise awareness, encourage blood donation in the community, and help ensure a supply of blood for emergency and treatment purposes.

In the field of cardiology, Abbott has brought many groundbreaking technologies to Vietnam. Technologies such as XIENCE drug-eluting stents, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and the Ensite X system for treating cardiac arrhythmias are highly regarded by experts for their accuracy and effectiveness.

One of Abbott's groundbreaking inventions is the Amplatzer Piccolo Occluder, which allows doctors to close holes in the hearts of newborns weighing as little as 700g without surgery. Abbott's HeartMate 3 (LVAD) left ventricular assist device has also been successfully implanted at Military Central Hospital 108, offering hope for patients with end-stage heart failure.

Abbott's groundbreaking Amplatzer Piccolo Occluder is a device that assists in the treatment of patent ductus arteriosus in premature and newborn infants.

Abbott has also brought to Vietnam the MitraClip solution, which helps treat mitral valve regurgitation without open surgery, shortening recovery time and improving the quality of life for patients. MitraClip was honored with the Prix Galien USA 2020 award as the most advanced medical technology.

In the diagnostic field, Abbott enhances healthcare efficiency with its comprehensive Alinity testing system, integrating multiple specialties to automate processes, increase accuracy, and shorten diagnostic time, supporting physicians in making faster and more appropriate treatment decisions.

Shaping the future of healthcare: From chronic disease management to nutritional solutions.

Beyond its focus on medical technology, Abbott also develops solutions for chronic disease care and nutrition, contributing to improved public health.

In 2021, this global healthcare company brought the FreeStyle Libre Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) system to Vietnam. FreeStyle Libre not only provides comprehensive glucose (blood sugar) readings for 14 consecutive days but also predicts changes in blood sugar based on results and trends recorded over the past 8 hours. This allows people with diabetes to adjust their lifestyles, and doctors to make better treatment decisions, reducing the risk of complications. FreeStyle Libre has changed the lives of approximately 6 million people in over 60 countries and was honored with the Prix Galien Golden Jubilee 2022 award as "Most Advanced Medical Technology in the Last 50 Years".

FreeStyle Libre has helped approximately 6 million people worldwide better manage their diabetes.

Facing the challenge of malnutrition, Abbott has developed numerous comprehensive nutritional improvement solutions, from scientific research to practical applications. Given that Vietnam is among the countries with the highest aging populations in the world, Abbott focuses on solutions to maintain muscle mass and boost immunity in adults, an essential part of healthy aging.

Particularly in Vietnam, although the rate of stunting in children under 5 years old decreased to 19.6% in 2020, the slow rate of improvement (less than 1% per year) since 2015 highlights the urgent need for new, science-based solutions. Abbott has partnered with the Vietnam Pediatric Association to implement the Quality of Nutrition Improvement Program (QIP), developing scientific guidelines on nutritional screening and intervention, and updating growth assessment tools for healthcare professionals, contributing to building a solid health foundation for future generations.

In addition, Abbott also provides comprehensive nutritional solutions, from supporting diabetes management, boosting immunity, and brain development, to caring for infants born via cesarean section with weakened immune systems – helping children get a healthy start in their early years.

Abbott believes that health is the foundation for a sustainable future. The company aims to improve the health of 3 billion people globally by 2030. In Vietnam, total investment from Abbott and the Abbott Foundation in nutrition programs, chronic disease treatment, medical training, and public awareness campaigns has exceeded VND 280 billion.

Douglas Kuo, Vice President and General Manager of Abbott Vietnam, shared on the occasion of Abbott's 30th anniversary in Vietnam: "We are committed to improving the quality of healthcare through technology and innovation to build a healthier and more sustainable future for the people of Vietnam."
