At the opening ceremony of the "Vietnam Water Industry Week 2025" with the theme "Vietnam's Water Industry in the New Era: Challenges and Opportunities" on the morning of August 20th, according to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Diep, Chairman of the Vietnam Water Supply and Drainage Association, Vietnam's water industry enters 2025 with many expectations but also faces numerous challenges such as increasingly severe climate change, rapid urbanization, declining water resources, inadequate infrastructure, and new demands for service quality and environmental protection.
In the context of the country undergoing many changes, according to Mr. Diep, the water sector faces many opportunities intertwined with challenges because after the merger of administrative units, the scale of water supply and drainage in urban areas has expanded; rapid urbanization and modernization have created an ever-increasing demand for water supply.
Therefore, the water sector needs specific and appropriate solutions and mechanisms to invest in building an efficient and sustainable drainage system, especially as climate change with extreme weather events such as sea level rise, drought, saltwater intrusion, and other issues become significant obstacles in ensuring water security and safety.
Mr. Diep believes that the water sector, with its essential role in urban and rural development, healthcare , production, and the environment, is one of the areas that needs rapid, strong, and substantive innovation. In particular, the theme of this year's event, "Vietnam's Water Sector in the New Era: Challenges and Opportunities," clearly reflects the strategic vision and determination of the entire sector.
The highlight of this event is a comprehensive overview of Vietnam's water industry, showcasing its significant transformation to meet socio -economic development demands and adapt to climate change. Numerous digital solutions and advanced technologies will be introduced and demonstrated at 200 exhibition booths, creating opportunities for networking, fostering cooperation, technology transfer, and trade promotion among businesses.
In addition, the "Vietnam Water Industry Week 2025" focuses on four thematic workshops on policy; advanced and efficient water supply and drainage technologies; gender equality in the water industry; and an open technical workshop where equipment manufacturers introduce their latest equipment and technologies.../.
