Similar to the 0-1 loss to defending champion Iran in the opening match, the Philippines caused many difficulties for the Vietnamese women's futsal team in scoring.
Throughout the first half, coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang's team barely created any clear chances. It was only in the second half that things changed. Thanh Hang's opening goal in the 24th minute helped the Vietnamese girls relieve the pressure and scored two more goals by Thu Xuan (minute 33) and Thanh Ngan (minute 39).
The second victory has brought the Vietnamese women's futsal team an early ticket to the quarterfinals. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has awarded the team 200 million VND, doubling the joy. However, the Vietnamese team still has to focus on the upcoming matches to achieve the goal of winning a ticket to the 2025 Futsal World Cup.
Accordingly, the Vietnamese women's futsal team will have the final match of the group stage against Iran on May 11 to decide the top spot in the group. Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang shared: "After the match with the Philippines, the coaching staff will analyze and evaluate to see what the team has done well and what is not so good. After that, we will analyze our opponent Iran to have a reasonable strategy."
Although there were no serious injuries, the Vietnamese team had some players who were overloaded. Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang said that there would be a solution to get them in the best shape for the next match.
According to the rules, the first team in Group B will meet the second team in Group C, and the second team in Group B will meet the second team in Group A in the quarter-finals. Therefore, the Vietnamese women's futsal team will have to calculate whether to place first or second in Group B to avoid meeting strong opponents.
If they finish second in Group B, Vietnam will only face three opponents with lower FIFA rankings: China, Taiwan or Uzbekistan (possibly second in Group A). If they finish first in Group B, the Vietnamese girls will face very strong opponents Thailand or Japan (possibly second in Group C).
