Tuyen Quang steps firmly into the new era

According to history books, the name Tuyen Quang appeared very early on the administrative map of Vietnam. However, it was not until 1831, after the administrative reform of King Minh Mang, that Tuyen Quang had a complete government apparatus of an administrative unit directly under the Central Government. Through the process of appraisal and organization of scientific seminars with specific and direct contributions from scientists and leading historical researchers of Vietnam on the founding date of Tuyen Quang province (old), they all agreed to take November 4, 1831 as the founding date of Tuyen Quang province.

A rich history of tradition

Over 194 years of formation and development, the people of all ethnic groups in Tuyen Quang have always been persistent, resilient, and creative in building a radiant Tuyen Quang like today. Located in a strategic position, "the fence of the central region, the important frontier", Tuyen Quang province has always stood side by side with the people of the whole country, bravely fighting against foreign invaders, protecting the country's mountains, rivers, and borders.

Since the Party was born, the people of all ethnic groups in Tuyen Quang province have always been loyal and faithful to the Party, building and protecting their homeland and country. During the August Revolution of 1945, Tuyen Quang was proud to be chosen by the Party Central Committee and Uncle Ho as the Capital of the Liberated Zone to lead the nation's Revolution.

In Tan Trao commune, many important historical events took place, deciding the fate of the country, leading to the victory of the August Revolution in 1945, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, opening a new era, the era of national independence associated with Socialism for our nation.

During the resistance war against French colonialism, Tuyen Quang was honored to become the Resistance Capital, chosen by Uncle Ho, the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the Government , the Fatherland Front and most of the ministries, departments, branches and central agencies as the headquarters to lead the resistance war against colonialism and feudalism.

Uncle Ho and the Party Central Committee chose this place to host many important events: the Second National Congress of the Party, the first Congress held in the country and the only Congress held outside the capital Hanoi. During the 9 years of long resistance war, Tuyen Quang province always fulfilled its mission of building and fighting to absolutely protect the central agencies and President Ho Chi Minh.

During the resistance war against American imperialism, the people of all ethnic groups in Tuyen Quang province not only built and protected their homeland, but also actively contributed human and material resources to the frontline, together with the people of the whole country, creating the great victory in the spring of 1975, liberating the South and unifying the country.

During the nearly 40-year journey of implementing the renovation process, the Party Committee and people of all ethnic groups in Tuyen Quang province have always been united, creative, inherited the revolutionary achievements of previous generations, overcome all difficulties, built the province and achieved many important achievements in all aspects. Notably, from a purely agricultural province with a low economic starting point, Tuyen Quang now has a comprehensive and sustainable socio-economic development foundation.

New province, new space and aspirations

July 1, 2025 marks a major event, the new Tuyen Quang province officially comes into operation on the basis of merging Tuyen Quang province and Ha Giang province.

The newly established Tuyen Quang province has created a new administrative entity with an area of ​​nearly 13,800 km2 and a population of nearly 1.9 million people. The new province after the merger has 124 commune-level administrative units (117 communes and 7 wards) which not only gathers more than 30 ethnic groups living together, creating a diverse and rich cultural picture, but also owns the 6th largest area in the country.

In particular, this is the only locality in the country that has a border adjacent to the two provinces of Yunnan and Guangxi of China, with a total length of more than 277 km. With a strategic location and rich natural resources, Tuyen Quang province has all the elements to become a "golden land" for green economic development, tourism, agriculture - forestry and renewable energy.

Despite many difficulties, Tuyen Quang province has been proactive, flexible, focused on leadership and direction to effectively implement the set targets and tasks. In 2024, the province's economy continued to maintain its growth momentum, with a total product growth rate of 9.04%; budget revenue exceeded the central government's estimate; for the first time, the province had 7 agricultural products exported to the UK market; industrial production value and output of some industrial products, trade, service and retail activities increased compared to the same period...

Along with Tuyen Quang, the land at the head of the Fatherland, Ha Giang, has risen strongly from the spirit of solidarity and determination to turn difficulties into opportunities for development. In particular, with the right direction, focusing on exploiting and promoting potentials and strengths, Ha Giang has built and affirmed its brand on the world tourism map. In 2024, the province's gross domestic product growth rate will reach 6.05%; the average gross domestic product per capita will be 39.3 million VND; the total social investment capital will be 14,369.9 billion VND; the state budget revenue in the area will reach 2,494.0 billion VND; and the number of tourists will reach 3.286 million.

The goal set by the 1st Congress of the Tuyen Quang Provincial Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term is that by 2030, Tuyen Quang will become a fairly developed, comprehensive, sustainable province with a high average income. Furthermore, by 2045, it will strive to become a developed, high-income province in the midland and mountainous region of the North. The establishment of the new Tuyen Quang province on the basis of merging the two provinces of Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang is expected to open a new journey for Tuyen Quang to promote its historical traditions and seize the opportunity to grow with the country.
