New Road

Vietnamese football has just received a breakthrough step when Ho Chi Minh City Club decided to send 18 young players to Brazil to study football at Gremio Club - one of the most prestigious training centers in South America.

This is the first time in history that a domestic football team has invested so heavily in the future. With the dream of the 2034 World Cup still far away, this move is like a beacon of light.

If it is not possible to export players to play abroad like Japan or Korea are doing, Vietnam can take a detour - training young players in a developed football environment is also considered the right direction.

It must be affirmed that the sending of 18 Vietnamese players to Brazil to study football is a commendable boost in long-term development thinking for Ho Chi Minh City Club.

However, when looking at the list, many fans have to slow down a beat. Most of the selected players are over 17 years old - an age that is no longer ideal for shaping thinking and changing playing style.

Approaching a highly organized football system like Brazil at such a late stage can make it difficult for many players to integrate and develop.

Players will need more time and effort to adapt – which is not easy for adults in a football environment like in Vietnam.

For the 2034 World Cup target

Although the professional efficiency may not reach the maximum level as expected, the project of Ho Chi Minh City Club still has a huge spiritual value and direction.

Breathing in the atmosphere of top-level football every day, being exposed to a fiercely competitive environment, learning about nutrition, discipline and professional ethics... will be a revolution in perception.

Hopefully the path opened by Ho Chi Minh City Club will be followed by other teams so that the Vietnamese team can break through.

This is the biggest hope. The players will bring that mindset back, influence other teammates and contribute to changing the face of football in the country.

Furthermore, if this model is successful, it will create a chain effect, making other clubs boldly invest in sending young players to study abroad in advanced football countries.

That is the solid foundation for the Vietnamese team to aim for a big goal - participating in the World Cup for the first time in 2034, as the project has just been announced.

And from that perspective, this "study abroad" trip, whether successful or not, has sown an important seed of hope for the path and goal of participating in the World Cup for the Vietnamese team.

A long road has opened up, the remaining question is whether we have enough patience and determination to go all the way.
