In the opening round, U21 Da Nang won convincingly against U21 Khanh Hoa with a score of 2-0 thanks to a double from U23 Vietnam striker - Pham Dinh Duy. Meanwhile, U21 Ho Chi Minh City lost narrowly to defending champion U21 Hanoi 0-1 in the opening match of the 2023 National U21 Championship.

Therefore, the Southern team entered the match with determination when facing U21 Da Nang with the desire to get points and hope to participate in the quarterfinals. In the first half, U21 Ho Chi Minh City controlled the ball more, but lacked effectiveness in attacking situations against Da Nang's tight defense.

In the 20th minute, U21 Da Nang took advantage of a set piece situation to take the lead thanks to Le Van Dat. This was also the only goal of the first half.

In a later match in Group B, U21 Hanoi defeated U21 Khanh Hoa 1-0 with the only goal scored by central defender Vu Van Son.
